The most moral army in the world beating up a Palestinian journalist! Attacks on the press by occupation soldiers outline the fundamental threat that the truth presents to their temporary and fragile existence. Over 80 journalists were killed and deliberately targeted by the Zionist occupation in the Gaza aggressions alone since October, but the history of targeting journalists is a long one. From Shireen Abu Akleh to Khaled Hamad, the occupation has a long history of deliberately brutalizing and murdering journalists. Palestinian journalists are the harbingers of truth, and the exposers of evil.

On this day, 15 years ago…a most beautiful symphony of aerodynamics, size ten dress shoes and Arab cursing was gifted to the world. An imperialist war criminal ducking like a coward from the incoming projectiles was one of the most iconic things to hit our television screens. Till this day, this war criminal and his croons were not held accountable for the millions of innocent lives brutally taken from this world. So we’ll have to settle for this, for now. Ancient Greeks used the term “barbarian” to describe non-Greeks, on account that their languages were “unintelligible”, so they would mockingly make it sound like noise or “bar-bar-bar”.
European powers during the so-called “age of exploration” referred to indigenous populations in the Americas as “savages”.
These terms were used to justify genocide, colonial expansion and the idea that these societies needed to be “civilized” by the colonizers.
Today a disheartening parallel unfolds as we find the word “terrorist” being used liberally to describe Palestinians. A cycle and historical pattern of dehumanization that we know all too well.
The irony is that the words of a colonizer are always self-describing.
So we must critically examine the narrative and language we have been subject to for decades, to unpack its impact and reclaim our power.
It is by resistance and decolonization through proactive engagement that we can accomplish liberation. It starts with the below:
1. Psychological Liberation
2. Cultural Reclamation
3. Political Engagement
4. Solidarity and Unity
5. Critical Consciousness
6. Decolonization of the Mind
