The controversial politician pay increase yesterday… 😲🐈⬛
The announcement of the political salary review yesterday has reignited one of the most enduring and emotionally charged debates in Singaporean governance 🛏️
Grounded in a policy rationale that stretches back decades, the government maintains that “competitive executive compensation” is essential to attract “top-tier talent” from the private sector, deter corruption, and maintain clean, high-performing governance 🤔🤔🤔
(Yeah, do you see the logic here? Civil service isn’t meant for people who are doing it for the money, and yet, a salary increase is needed to “prevent corruption” 🤨🤨)
Under the updated framework, entry-level ministerial packages increase to roughly S$1.2 million annually, while Prime Minister Lawrence Wong’s benchmark package moves to S$3.6 million, a rise he has pledged to donate entirely to charity for the next five years 🤨🤨
Meanwhile, parliamentary allowances for Members of Parliament are set to rise by thirty-eight percent, moving from about S$13,000 to S$18,000 per month 🤨🤨
Despite the administration's strategic justification, the optics of the announcement have struck a sensitive nerve across Singaporeans.
The key driver of public frustration is the stark contrast in how "national duty" is regulated for different segments of society 🤨
Members of Parliament will now in earn S$18,000 a month, while being legally permitted to hold lucrative corporate positions, legal practice roles, and commercial directorships (or to “moonlight” - see Tin Pei Ling’s Grab directorship case 🤔)
In sharp contrast, young men fulfilling their mandatory National Service are subject to strict military regulation prohibiting any outside employment or side hustles 👎👎
(The irony of it all is how little NS men get paid compared to politicians, and are still not allowed to moonlight, despite both fulfilling “national duty” 🤨)
For many citizens, watching young conscripts face punishment for trying to supplement meager allowances while full-time corporate executives freely hold parliamentary seats creates a deep sense of institutional hypocrisy 😡
This sense of disparity is further magnified by the difficult economic climate facing everyday households 🙂
The decision to raise political allowances comes at an insanely tone-deaf period when Singaporeans are navigating the cumulative impact of a 9% GST, persistent inflation, escalating housing costs, and elevated living expenses 🥹
Furthermore, persistent global restructuring and corporate retrenchments have left many working professionals facing heightened job insecurity, stagnant wages, or pay freezes 😢 (See: the GovTech retrenchment this year)
Therefore, this may reinforce the perception of disconnect between the political elite and the day-to-day economic realities of the ground 🫠
Ultimately, the controversy highlights a fundamental divergence in philosophy regarding public service:
While the government views market-tested compensation as a practical necessity to secure competent leadership and manage a sophisticated city-state, a large portion of the citizenry views public office as a sacred civic calling that should not be benchmarked against private sector wealth 🤔🤔

The disgusting domestic helper situation in SG 😥😥
The uproar began when screenshots from an Instagram post surfaced, showing a young Singaporean couple residing in a 4-room HDB flat who shared a self-proclaimed "life hack" titled, “We thought our 4-room BTO was too small for a helper. Here’s how we made it work.” 😖
(Screenshots: https://www.reddit.com/r/SingaporeRaw/comments/1w81rty/sg_couple_proud_of_the_space_for_their_helper/)
In the original post, the couple proudly showcased how they turned one-third of the husband’s home study room into the domestic helper’s bedroom by SQUEEZING a single bed against the wall and partitioning it off with a lightweight, accordion-style folding room divider 🤔🤔
The couple framed this as a “thoughtful” gesture, boasting that it gave her "a little corner she can call her own"🤮
The thread exploded with fierce backlash as netizens reacted to the couple's tone-deafness and self-righteous presentation 😡
Commenters were appalled that an employer would expect praise for an arrangement that offered virtually ZERO privacy
Following the severe internet outrage, the couple deleted the original post and privatised their social media accounts.
What’s the bigger pattern here?
The persistent, quiet tragedy of Singapore’s domestic care model lies in its ability to normalise the extraordinary erosion of basic human dignity under the sanitised guise of urban spatial constraints and middle-class convenience 😢
What was horrendous about this case study is the utter absence of self-awareness and the perverse pride with which it was presented, as if cramming a adult worker into an exposed, boundaryless nook were an act of BENEVOLENT spatial design 🤼♂️
The psychological toll of living in a state of perpetual exposure cannot be overstated: when a worker cannot retreat behind a closed, locked door to decompress, sleep, or communicate with her own family without being observed or overheard, the home ceases to be a living space and simply becomes a vessel of uninterrupted domestic servitude 😔😔
This structural deficit is further amplified by a cultural cognitive dissonance wherein domestic workers are simultaneously entrusted with the most intimate burdens of a household (nurturing children, caring for the infirm, maintaining the domestic sphere) yet denied the basic respect extended to any other member of the workforce 😥
(Additionally, there’s Singaporean families who mistreat their helpers by taking away their phones, not giving them days off, or giving them leftovers for their meals WTF? 😤)
Urgent legal and societal reform is imperative if Singapore is to reconcile its status as a global metropolis with its ethical obligations toward the migrant community that forms of the foundation of our economy 🛏️
More critically, there must be a collective reckoning with the casual dehumanisation that surrounds Singapore’s domestic helpers 😔

WHAT IF A MOVIE IS SO BAD…
THAT IT BECOMES GOOD ART??? 🐮😭 LITERALLY look at Niu Lai.
Awkward animation, suuuper odd dialogue.
and the plot was BS AND YET audiences embraced it???
Which means this one strange case can unlock multiple Arts arguments:
● who tf decides whether art is “good”?
● does technical quality ACTUALLY determine artistic value?
● can audience reception transform failed art into meaningful art? so is there such a thing like SHITTY ART
● INSIGHTS U NEED, LIKE... are human imperfections becoming MORE valuable because of AI?
● why can “AI slop” feel less compelling than an obviously flawed human creation?
WE'LL GIVE U THE EXACT TEMPLATES FOR TACKLING ARTS EXAMPLES so you study less but score more 👀
Not by memorising one block of facts, wasting a shit ton of time (that u dun even have)
But by learning how to REPURPOSE one case across different tricky Cambridge qns wordings! ESPECIALLY bc you've seen in the TYS and this year's exams, the Arts qns have become so advanced , right?
You read the qn once, and you sorta geddit ?? BUT URE NOT REALLY sure too?
Inside GPMLS’ Annual Arts Crash Course, we’ll show u how to do this with cases involving:
✅ Niu Lai and opposition to AI-generated sameness 🤖
✅ Banksy and the commercial value of art!
✅ a super trendy 2026 Singapore Teochew film debate and all the hidden tea about censorship, so you form non-mainstream arguments to shine like a star
✅ contemporary music, fashion, digital art and literature examples that defy what your MID-ASS peers scoring 31/50 will writeeee
✅ arts philosophies like aestheticism, moralism and instrumentalism which ur cher hardly covers because... 😖
Then we’ll connect these cases to question analysis, argument construction and evaluation!
You’ll also receive x1 model essay plus x1 two-sided Arts value/purposes cheatsheet.
AVAILABLE CLASSES:
● Sep 8, 2026 — 8–10 PM SGT — Jerald
● Sep 9, 2026 — 8–10 PM SGT — Estelle

We’re so cooked (literally and figuratively)
According to the United Nations, global temperatures are set to rise beyond 1.5°C, likely within the next few years. 😱
Yes, we’ll be crossing the 1.5°C threshold initially set out by the UN to ensure that we avoid the worst impacts of climate change. The 1.5°C threshold, once an ideal target to hit, has now become an inevitability. 😥
Crossing the 1.5°C threshold brings us closer and closer to the tipping points of the planet 🫠: the collapse of the Amazon rainforest, the weakening of the thermohaline circulation, and destabilisation of ice sheets, among others.
Our environment functions much like dominoes in a row: the collapse of just one domino (i.e. one planetary boundary being pushed to its tipping point) causes cascading effects that can lead to the collapse of all the other dominoes.
To say we’re cooked might be an understatement… 😡
1️⃣ How did we get there?
We’ve had years to gradually roll out climate change mitigation strategies outlined in the 2015 Paris Agreement, but the key hindrance to the implementation of these strategies is the desire for relentless economic growth. 😢
Our current economic systems are built on the foundation of extraction: the more we extract from the environment, the more we prosper. 😡 To put it plainly, our current economic models are fundamentally incompatible with a sustainable future.
Yet, our path dependency on this heavily destructive economic model makes world leaders and conglomerates reluctant to change. For the short term, it is far, far simpler to just ignore climate change. 🥹 (well, until now, that is, where climate change has come knocking on our door)
The reality is that there is no real incentive for companies to stop overproducing and driving consumer demand through advertising and consumer manipulation, because… profit and shareholder value.
Who cares about what happens in the future, as long as I can continue profiting now, am I right? 🤔
Similarly, the past few editions of the Conference of the Parties have churned out abysmal results because of countries’ conflicting interests, most notably of petrostates' refusal to reduce the very fossil fuel consumption that drives their economies.
At the same time, we can't exactly blame them... they gotta eat somehow too, right?
2️⃣ What happens next?
In the best case scenario, we take this piece of news as a much-needed wake up call, and governments act swiftly and decisively to implement mitigation strategies to keep temperature rise to 1.8°C. 🥳
The United Nations has made clear that we can still act to reduce global temperatures, so not all hope is lost.
However, as long as economic and political interests continue to hinder our transition to a more sustainable economic model that prioritises planetary care and social inclusion, we can expect to continue on this trajectory to planetary collapse. 🥹
As for what will happen if we really push the planet beyond its tipping point: we really can’t say for sure. 😥 Long before the presence of humans, ecosystems lived in equilibrium with each other.
To throw these equilibriums so heavily off balance at the scale that human activity has… we truly cannot accurately predict what exactly will happen, and at what scale.
Much uncertainty still exists, and we don’t know how bad things could get. And that in itself is a very harrowing thought, at least for younger folk like us that will be around long enough to bear the brunt of these impacts.
But perhaps we should be scared. 🤔 At least, scared enough to finally get our act together and do our best to bring down temperatures.
Do you think this will be a sufficient wake-up call?

BREAKING NEWS: TRUMP & KIM JONG UN are dating??
ignore my delulu 😠😠😠 my wattpad fantasies ..
BTW. This Monday at exactly 7 PM SGT, our signup bot for GPMLS’ Annual Arts Crash Course drops in this Telegram channel‼️
AND WE’RE ONE OF THE VERRRY FEW GP centres in SG dedicating time to cover a fully-arts-specific Crash Course
So you have everything you need to know EVEN at the last last last minute
And there is one boring but important detail:
We have only 35 PUBLIC STUDENT spots across ALL three classes 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻
Not 35 per day…
Thirty-five total‼️
Once they’re filled, the signup bot automatically shuts off please note!
So, if u are the student who:
● memorises Arts examples but cannot link them…
● reads model essays but still writes shallow arguments
● gets told to “evaluate more” in your arts essays. without knowing how
● worries that an unfamiliar question will make ur mind blank
● wants one deeply prepared topic before the exams…
LISTEN! 🚨🚨🚨
this crash course was built for your exact worry
Because as someone who TRUSTED MY LIFE ON THIS ONE TOPIC , yes ARTS, I went through so many different strategies
And only less than 4 were actually useful
But the thing is, there’s so much advice on Reddit on how to mug THIS SPECIFIC TOPIC of essay 😭😭😭
And don’t get me wrong! Most are useful & well-meaning
BUT they’re more suited for when you have the luxury of time to study this Arts Topic so comprehensively with , frankly, unnecessary detail that doesn’t even help you bump your marks significantly
And I know you have it in you to ace this topic on your own
You’ve already read model essays, tried to gather some good concepts to ELAB across your arts topics, and you’ve even bugged your Cher a few times “I don’t get what’s wrong could you help me?”
It’s just that im quite worried you have not enough time to catch up in this topic PLUS dedicate time for your H2s brooooo
During the two-hour class, we’ll help u turn Arts from a chaotic pile of boring painting and film examples into a REUSABLE, CONSISTENT essay system 🥳🥰
A system that your schools hardly teach you because frankly, your Cher has so many other things to cover, it’s sometimes inevitable they neglect this
You’ll learn how to:
✅ break ARTS questions into their real underlying debates so you can realistically lock in 23/30 for content minimally
✅ organise Arts by sub-themes so you CUT YOUR REVISION TIME BY HALF
✅ select versatile arguments Arts examples and case studies so you study less BUT score more
✅ evaluate what an ARTS-SPECIFIC example proves
✅ tweak the same content across the thickest Cambridge questions
➜ especially given how Cambridge has been trynna test killer Arts qns via CONFUSING WORDING
✅ see the writing process inside a range of model essay questions so you yourself won’t feel stuck in the ALEVELS & PROMOD URSELF
✅ test yourself through in-class QNAs
✅ you bring home x1 model essay & x1 arts 2 sided cheatsheet that you can glance at JUST BEFORE YOU RUSH INTO THE EXAM HALL
It has 2 years of arts insights condensed into 2 sides??? How crazy is that
But ofc don’t trust me
I know it lowkey sounds too good to be true.. But deadass around 200 students have attended GPMLS’ Annual Crash Courses, with past students reporting 2–4 grade jumps😆
In our next few texts, lemme include the proof screenshots with this post so u can decide based on evidence‼️
If you just remember one thing: it’s this
I want you to make the best choice for yourself because I know how valuable it is to spend 2 hours of your precious revision time with us
Available classes:
● 8 Sept, 8–10 PM SGT — Jerald
● 9 Sept, 8–10 PM SGT — Estelle

Your job when prepping for this upcoming GP exam is this one thing
If you don’t nail this, everything else you’ll do might be sabotaging you! Even worse, you waste all the precious scarce time you have left
Your job is to find the one-size-fits-all writing framework for the specific topics you’re hoping will be tested‼️
You need a framework that Cambridge is most likely to demand 🥰 And as you know, every year, Cambridge assesses your seniors’ scripts
And they publish an internal detailed document on WHICH essay qns were fked up, WHERE did most candidates shine
AND what question requirements were they planting in
aka which bombs were they planting into the questions & who fell for them LOL 😥
Don’t believe me? Ask your chers about this internal report‼️
Because we’ve analysed the past 20 years of Cambridge question testing format & the annual feedback, we diagnosed what writing styles are MOST COUNTERPRODUCTIVE!
This year round we’re finally releasing our Annual Arts Crash Course‼️ Every year we teach this one iconic class ONCE
Last year, your seniors LUVED how niche & deep the notes were because we fully saved them the time needed to write it themselves 🌈
And naturally, they scored 84% Distinction‼️ Btw the national average is 25%ish
One change: This year, our team redeveloped the full structure to target this syllabus EVEN MORE 👀
Because we have some arts questions + hybrid questions we’re spotting will come out 😮 So we re-angled our Annual Arts Crash Course towards it!
This means you do NOT waste time studying random arts examples that are not even likely to come out 😼
So if you’re interested in a quick solution to take care of your GP even if you’re deeply overwhelmed now & full of self-doubts , come snatch your spot!
Only 35 public spots for this crash course! But there 5k of yall here uh…
Or if you’re constantly thinking “can i actually live up to my own expectations”, “i really don’t wanna let me and my parents down anymore”
“i have so many people believing in me, i must do my best”
“i feel so useless , nothing i try works whats the point of even trying lol”
It’s really not your fault, i neeeeeed to assure you bestie 😭
Sometimes you’re just one more technique or practice essay away from changing your full grade
But the sucky thing about life is, if you never try it, you’ll never find out if it’s gonna work
Similarly, if you never give this Annual Arts Crash Course a shot, there’s no use in being skeptical too! 🕯🎂
● 35 SPOTS
● SIGN UPS OPEN 7 Sept MONDAY 7PM ➜ link drops here
p.s early birds, u get a goodie worth $95‼️ with an arts-exclusive ESSAY ELAB practice sheet to accelerate your revision by x3 times!
EVEN BETTER: you get a hyper-condensed arts vocab bank with the most relevant concepts that hits the Cambridge Internal Marking Rubrics🤌🏻💫 so you stop overwriting irrelevant stuff that doesn’t “answer the question”

Sometimes you just can’t believe how racist Singaporeans can be, until you open Mothership’s comment section 😔
There is a quiet, ugly rot hiding behind the keyboard culture of Singapore's social media comments.
For a country that continuously preaches racial harmony and collective unity, the online reaction to human tragedy frequently lays bare an appalling undercurrent of xenophobia, casual racism, and an utter deficit of basic human empathy 😠
The recent disaster along the Nepal-Tibet border, where flash floods swept away hundreds and left nine Singaporeans missing, became the subject of recent Singaporean online discourse 🥹
Following the tragedy, two young daughters made a desperate appeal for information regarding their missing parents…
Instead of receiving sympathy, safety or prayers, the comment section degraded into a digital cesspool:
Netizens scrutinised the victims' accents, names, skin tones, and heritage, typing out malicious remarks like "they don't look Singaporean" or sneering "just import more" 🐸
Some went so far as to express "good riddance" or question why state diplomatic resources were being used to locate citizens who did not conform to their narrow definition of what a Singaporean should look like 👍
This rot runs deeper than standard Internet trolling, precisely because it reflects a bitter, exclusionary brand of nativism that weaponises crisis to enforce racial hierarchy and gatekeep citizenship 😬
While politicians and community leaders routinely step up to call these comments "heartless" and remind the public that empathy should precede prejudice, the cycle repeats with EVERY news story involving minorities or naturalised citizens.
Therefore, it exposes the hypocrisy of a society that prides itself on being “modern, cosmopolitan, and multiracial”, yet consistently allows online spaces to thrive on bigoted, bottom-shelf commentary 😖

“I can’t do this anymore.. Arts is too broad to prepare..”😭😭
Duh. it definitely feels that way especially when ur revision method as shit as this:
oh yes Banksy.
oh ya lemme put a Billie Eilish example into my bank.
Some vague ass painting..
AI art that you asked chatgpt to give u as a “good gp example” LOL
Maybe a random Singapore film??
Of course ur brain feels like a MESS‼️
“wait… how does Banksy actually answer this qn? Shit”
“is this about censorship, value, technology or society?”
“hold up am I even ATQ-ing??” 😭
BUT your content is not the real problem
The missing piece is a map! Now WTF does that mean bro??
Once u organise Arts by the recurring debates exam questions actually revolve around, this mess becomes far more predictable so you can guarantee your next Arts Essay is 38/50:
Recent testing trends, if you flip through the TYS & prelim papers (AND when we see Cambridge’s reports) are like:
● Does art need practical value?
● Should artistic freedom be restricted?
● Is technology helping or harming art?
● Why does society undervalue artists?
● Can art genuinely create social change?
● Who decides whether art is “good”?
so do you finally understand how you do not need to memorise every artwork on Earth??
You simply need a smaller number of versatile examples, understood so deeply to support several recurring debates
THIS MEANS you HALF your revision time!
Das why GPMLS’ Annual Arts Crash Course combines:
✅ Our most iconic Structured Arts Question bank so you can be well-aware of what arts questions will likely pop up this year 👀🤭
✅ INSIGHTFUL art philosophies such as aestheticism and instrumentalism??
✅ Modern, traditional and AI-generated art and a whole basket of hand-picked tomato examples for you
✅ Singapore-specific Arts debates
✅ Detailed, reusable case studies
✅ x1 JUICY ARTS model essay and Arts cheatsheet
✅ Hands-on practice adapting one idea across differently phrased questions
We prepared SO MUCH such that when a weird question appears this Alevels or promos, u are not desperately searching through your brain while it fully blanks‼️
This is exactly what kills HUNDREDS of your seniors every. single. year.
FAQ: what are the class slots?
All sessions run 8–10 PM:
● 8 Sept with Jerald
● 9 Sept with Estelle
● 10 Sept with Estelle
AND only 35 total spots.

WTF…America just made child pornography legal if it was AI-generated??? 🐹🐹🐹
The recent entry in the OECD AI Incidents and Hazards Monitor detailing a U.S. federal appeals court ruling marks a deeply troubling point in American legal history 🥹
In a case involving a Wisconsin man caught with explicit material generated by tools like Stable Diffusion, the court ruled that the private possession of AI-generated child sexual abuse material (CSAM) is protected under the First Amendment, provided no real child was depicted or harmed in the creation process.
😠😠
The judgment:
By relying on Supreme Court precedents, such as Stanley v. Georgia (1969) regarding private obscenity possession and Ashcroft v. Free Speech Coalition (2002) regarding non-real "virtual" images, the judiciary found itself legally constrained to allow the home possession of purely synthetic depictions 🤔
The ruling tells us a staggering reality: modern generative technology has outpaced existing legal frameworks, forcing courts to shield abhorrent digital fabrications under the guise of “free expression” 🐸
The implications of granting any level of constitutional shelter to synthetic CSAM are devastating for child protection and law enforcement alike 😖
As AI image generators become capable of creating photo-realistic media that is functionally indistinguishable from real abuse imagery, child protection networks and digital response systems face unprecedented strain…
Organisations like the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) rely on automated triage and investigative resources to identify real victims trapped in active abuse environments.
Therefore, flooding these databases with millions of synthetically generated, legally protected images threatens to cripple investigative capabilities, diverting critical time and manpower away from rescuing real children ✅
Furthermore, permitting the private accumulation of synthetic abuse material NORMALISES the sexualisation of minors and lowering psychological barriers for individuals who may ultimately seek out or perpetrate harm against actual children 🥹
This ruling highlights severe FLAWS in traditional interpretations of the First Amendment when applied to advanced generative algorithms:
1. Constitutional protections were designed to safeguard political speech, philosophical inquiry, artistic expression, and individual conscience, not to serve as a legal sanctuary for the generation of explicit child abuse imagery.
2. Elevating algorithmically-synthesised outputs to the level of protected human expression conflates meaningful speech with automated harm, sacrificing the tangible safety and rights of children to uphold an absolute, dogmatic view of personal privacy and free expression 🤨
All in all, this demonstrates an urgent need for lawmakers and higher courts to establish robust standards that strictly outlaw all forms of realistic child sexual abuse material regardless of how it is produced.
