| 2 |  An urgent hunt for a violent man previously considered 'a risk to women' has been launched after he fled from a care facility in east London.
Balasankar Narayanan, 46, ran off in South Park, east London, last Thursday while on escorted leave from a care facility in Ilford.
He is described as having a shaved head and was wearing a light green T-shirt, grey and black shorts, black socks with red stripes and grey shoes at the time.
Narayanan has links to east, central and west London. The Metropolitan Police are asking members of the public to help locate him.
This, however, is not the first time the 46-year-old has fled from care.
In August 2024, police launched an appeal after he absconded from a facility while on a walk with staff at the park. It is yet to be clarified, though, whether this was the same facility.
The Met warned that Narayanan was a risk to women and a potentially violent man at the time.
And in January 2025, Narayanan went missing in east London for a second time as police admitted they had become 'increasingly concerned' for his safety.
Previous reports suggest he has links across London, in particular to Newham, Greenford, Hammersmith, Highgate and Ilford, as well as the West Midlands.
Narayanan has previously been found in Essex and Manchester.
The Met said after he went missing this week: 'Police are appealing for the public's help to trace a man who absconded while on escorted leave from a care facility in Ilford.
'Balasankar Narayanan, 46 was last seen at 14:00hrs on Thursday, 3 September when he ran off from staff in South Park.
'While our investigation to locate Balasankar continues, we are appealing to the public to help locate him.
'Balasankar has shaved hair, and was wearing a light green t-shirt, grey/black shorts, black socks with red stripes, and grey shoes.

Three people have been arrested for his murder.
A 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man, from the Newcastle-under-Lyme area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. They remain in custody and will continue to be questioned after extra time was granted.

| 7 |  +1Three young men have been given life sentences for murdering an unarmed father on a north London estate with an "arsenal of knives" and a hospital crutch.
Benito Ramirez Kones, 20, ( L) Carlos Akum Metumbe, 22, ( C) and Luiggi Perelli Santana, 22,(R) stabbed and beat Gregory Catillo Volquez outside in a car park out of sight from CCTV cameras on 13 January last year.
The murderers "went into the night" with Metumbe and Santana fleeing the UK, the court heard.
Sobs were heard from the public gallery of Southwark Crown Court as Santana and Kones were given minimum term of 23 years in prison, while Metumbe was jailed for at least 22 years.
Delivering his sentence, the judge said: "This was a truly wicked crime committed by very dangerous men.
"In my judgment, none of you have shown any real remorse for what you did."
The judge added: "The violence inflicted on (Mr Volquez) in the car park was grossly disproportionate to any threat he could have posed." | 297 |

| 9 |  A man has been jailed for assisting Daniel Khalife following his escape from prison.
Adeel Khan, 32 of Waltham Forest, was sentenced to four years and six months' imprisonment at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 4 September, after being found guilty of assisting an offender following a two-week trial.
Khan had previously pleaded guilty to possessing a mobile phone in prison, contrary to section 40D(1) of the Prisons Act 1952.
A nationwide manhunt was launched to locate Khalife, who remained at large for three days before being arrested near a canal in Northolt. However, during the investigation and following Khalife's arrest, officers established that he had not acted alone in his efforts to evade capture.
The investigation team found that Khalife had been communicating by mobile phone with Khan, whom he had met in prison. Detectives also uncovered evidence showing that Khan had arranged for Khalife to receive £400 in cash while he was on the run. | 234 |
| 10 |  +1A pupil who stabbed a teacher in the head with a kitchen knife after asking her to check his homework has been sentenced to four-and-a-half years in youth detention.
The 16-year-old boy followed Vicki Williams into her empty classroom at Milford Haven Comprehensive School, Pembrokeshire, after asking for help with his work on 5 February.
The teenager pulled a knife from his bag and lunged at her, Swansea Crown Court previously heard, with Williams saying she feared she would die.
After the trial in July, he was found not guilty of attempted murder but guilty of wounding with intent.
On Thursday, Judge Paul Thomas told the court there was a "significant degree of planning" and that "time stood still" for Williams.
During the trial, Williams said the attack "came out of nowhere" after the boy - who cannot be named due to a court order - asked her for help with his work at the end of the school day.
He closed the classroom door behind him and Williams noticed him looking through his bag as he asked her if his work "was correct".
She said he suddenly pulled a large kitchen knife from the bag, and stabbed her in her head.
Williams grabbed the knife, pushed the boy back with her legs, and screamed.
She had injuries to her head, back and hands and said the boy looked at her with "pure hatred". | 199 |
| 11 |  +2A father and daughter have been convicted after a woman was killed and dumped in a canal in West Bromwich.
On 4 October a member of the public reported a woman had been killed and ‘disposed of’ in the canal network in Great Bridge.
We quickly launched an investigation and as part of initial enquiries, officers attended the address of 42-year-old Hayley-Marie Ferguson on Heronville Road, West Bromwich. Following searches, we found suspected blood stained clothing in a wheelie bin outside her home. Ferguson was consequently arrested.
Following significant comments made by Ferguson in custody, her father, John Anslow, aged 65 was then also arrested.
On 7 October, Chereiss Bailey, aged 36 was found dead in the canal near Ryders Green Road. She was found with washing line cord attached to paving slabs and submerged in the water.
Officers reviewed hours of CCTV footage and captured Chereiss going into John Anslow’s address on 27 September after they met on Great Bridge Street.
Whilst in his address, Chereiss was subjected to a traumatic assault which led to her death.
The morning after, Anslow cancelled his community carers and called his daughter for help. Ferguson packed slabs and travelled to Anslow’s address in a taxi claiming she was helping him with his garden.
She then returned home a few hours later and attended a Peaky Blinders themed event on the evening.
In the early hours of 29 September, Ferguson took another taxi to Anslow’s address and helped cover up Chereiss’ murder.
Anslow of Stour Street, West Bromwich was subsequently charged with murder and preventing a lawful burial and Ferguson ( 2nd pic) of Heronville Road, West Bromwich was charged with assisting an offender and prevention of a lawful burial.
Anslow pleaded guilty to preventing the lawful and decent burial of Chereiss’ body ahead of the trial.
After a three-week trial at Birmingham Crown Court, today they have been found guilty of those offences.
They are due to be sentenced at a later date. | 205 |
| 12 |  The Met has praised security staff at Canary Wharf and called for more joint action to help tackle violence against women and girls after security helped stop a rape and bring a violent offender to justice.
Syed Imam, aged 30, from Beddington, was found guilty of attempted rape on Thursday, July 2, 2026, following a four-day trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court. Imam was sentenced to 6 years on Thursday, 3 September.
Imam was arrested in the early morning of Friday 14 March, following a report from the security team at Canary Wharf who witnessed Imam attempting to rape a woman in the underpass near the train station.
The security team had observed Imam acting suspiciously while on patrol and swiftly intervened when they saw him forcibly assaulting a vulnerable woman. The security team detained the man to prevent him from fleeing.
They alerted officers who made an arrest, secured vital evidence and progressed the investigation at pace – securing a charge within 24 hours.
The security team’s actions meant officers were able to arrest this dangerous offender within half an hour of the assault. | 179 |
| 13 |  +2Two men who created fraudulent Covid 19 vaccination records during the pandemic, and sold them online, have been sentenced.
Waqas Hanif, 28, and Touqir Nasir, 31, both from Luton in Bedfordshire, were charged as part of a joint National Crime Agency and NHS England investigation.
Hanif was arrested by NCA officers in January 2022, while Nasir attended a voluntary interview in March 2023.
The investigation focused on the creation of more than 2,000 fraudulent records between June and October 2021 at the Kingsway Health Centre in Luton, where Hanif worked as a vaccination programme care co-ordinator. It also led to the seizure of £136,405 in cash from a local safe deposit box that Hanif had rented.
During the pandemic, unvaccinated individuals paid for official vaccine passport records which were obtained from social media platforms, including Telegram, illegally. Hanif charged clients between £80 to £150 per two ‘doses’ of vaccine.
It is suspected that organised criminals recruited, or worked in partnership with, non-clinical staff to produce the fraudulent records. This enabled unvaccinated people to avoid complying with restrictions adhered to by others during the pandemic, such as travel or gathering in large groups.
A total of 2,663 suspicious entries were recorded and linked to the Kingsway Health Centre, of which 1,875 were linked to five IP addresses connected to Hanif’s home address.
Investigators established that Hanif had site administrator rights to Pinnacle, the NHS system used to generate and record vaccinations.
Nasir additionally pleaded guilty to an offence under POCA on 26 February this year, to which he provided a basis of plea which was subject to a Newton Hearing on 3 June.
At the same court today (3 September), Hanif was sentenced to three years in prison, and Nasir to ten months suspended for one year. Nasir will also be subject to a curfew for six months.
Hanif pleaded guilty to charges under the Computer Misuse Act, Fraud Act and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) at Luton Crown Court on 4 March 2025, with Nasir pleading guilty to a Fraud Act offence at the same court on 4 December 2025. | 209 |
| 14 |  A man who shot a teenage boy in the head in Sheffield has been found guilty of attempted murder.
At 5.15pm on Monday 24 November 2025, Tanzir Ali, 27, shot a 16-year-old boy on London Road, causing serious and life-changing injuries.
Officers and the ambulance service attended the scene, and the boy was taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Thankfully, the victim survived his injuries, but remains in hospital with life changing injuries.
Ali fled scene following the shooting and travelled to Aberdeen where he was arrested alongside Sharna Osborne, who had booked a hotel for them using false details.
Officers arrested Ali on suspicion of attempted murder and firearms offences. Osborne, 24, of Duthie Terrace, Aberdeen, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
A thorough investigation was launched immediately following the shooting, with officers carrying out forensic enquiries at the scene and securing vital CCTV evidence which captured the exact moment of the shooting.
Ali and Osborne were charged, with Ali pleading guilty to possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence but not guilty to attempted murder. Osborne pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender.
At court, Ali said that he did not mean to press the trigger on the murder weapon, and that he didn’t know it was loaded.
However, CCTV evidence compiled by officers and shown at court tracked Ali’s actions in the minutes before, during, and after the shooting.
CCTV footage showed Ali in the company of several others and engaged in an altercation with the victim. Ali is seen to pull a gun out of his pocket, a loud bang is heard, and the victim falls to the ground.
CCTV further captured Ali returning the firearm to his pocket and fleeing the scene.
Ali, of Glencoe Road, Sheffield, was found guilty of attempted murder at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday 2 September. Osborne was found guilty of assisting an offender at the same court on Thursday 3 September.
They have both been remanded into custody ahead of their sentencing at Sheffield Crown Court on 18 November. | 226 |

| 16 |  The first picture of a mother accused of murdering her newborn baby
after a court heard the baby girl suffered '15 stabbings' at her Sheffield home.
Andrea Skopova, 20, appeared in court on Wednesday charged with the murder of her newborn named only as Baby S.
The baby girl was found dead with 33 wounds from 15 separate stabbings at a property in Holywell Heights, Sheffield, the court heard.
Prosecutors told a district judge at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court that the baby’s body was found on top of a washing machine in an outhouse at an address in the Wincobank area of Sheffield on Sunday.
There others, Peter Horvath Jnr, 19, Peter Horvath Snr, 38, and Nina Horvathova, 37, aslo appeared in court in relation to the baby's death.
Horvath Jnr, Horvath Snr and Horvathova, all of Holywell Heights, and Skopova, of Robey Street, Grimesthorpe, Sheffield, are also charged with causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice by cleaning the scene of the alleged crime.

Behind them, a man appears to keep recording for another minute with a camera trained on their legs and lower bodies.
The teenagers are among hundreds of women and girls Metro has identified in videos apparently filmed across London and uploaded to a website charging viewers $50 for access.
Their faces are used in thumbnails to ‘entice’ viewers to subscribe.
Under titles like ‘Sunny Day Shopper’ and ‘Spanish brunette’, the website claims there are around 400 videos of women and girls, many of whom appear underage.
In most cases, they are walking around the city in shorts or leggings.
The women and girls appear to have been filmed in busy locations including Stratford Westfield, Oxford Street and Tube stations.
One victim, Eranta Ntatsi, 29, was filmed as she went about her business in Wood Green’s High Road. She likens her experience as ‘being raped in the moment’.
The mum-of-two told Metro she had no clue about the video until a man, who follows her husband’s social media accounts, recognised her.
He sent him the footage and now Eranta feels ‘completely violated and abused’.
She said: ‘It was three years ago when I walked out of Halifax after collecting some of my maternity payment. I never even noticed I was being filmed, and suddenly a few weeks ago a man contacts my husband out of the blue letting him know I was on this website.
‘Watching the video for the first time, I just felt disgust. I hate that I am just pushing my baby in a pram and someone is having sexual thoughts.
'But I won’t stop wearing leggings. I am a personal trainer and even have my own athletic clothing business.’
Metro shared details of the website with the Victim’s Commissioner for London, Andrea Simon.
As the mother of a 14-year-old daughter, she said she was ‘enraged’.
‘The scale of this is huge. You’ve got hundreds of women and girls affected, and the ability to upload these videos to a website and to share them with others is compounding the harm.
‘The Online Safety Act makes it a duty for sites to take down nonconsensual image-based abuse within 48 hours, but there has to be enforcement behind it.’
Ofcom said the law was clear that both upskirting and sharing such content online were illegal.
They said: ‘The law is clear that both upskirting and sharing any such content online is illegal. Under the Online Safety Act, sites and apps must assess the risk of content like this circulating on their services, take steps to stop it appearing and act quickly to remove it when they become aware.’
The Met Police confirmed they would support any victim who came forward to report being filmed inappropriately. | 247 |
| 18 |  A 16‑year‑old pupil has been detained for four and a half years after stabbing history teacher Vicki Williams in the head at Milford Haven School, Pembrokeshire. The attack happened in February, when the boy—then 15—waited until the end of the school day, approached Ms Williams under the pretext of checking homework, then pulled an eight‑inch kitchen knife from his rucksack and struck her.
Ms Williams described seeing “pure hatred” in his eyes as he lunged at her, pushing her into a chair before fleeing. She suffered a scalp wound, scratches and minor cuts, and has since developed PTSD. She told the court she does not know if she will ever return to teaching.
The school went into lockdown after the incident.
At Swansea Crown Court, the defendant was convicted of wounding with intent but acquitted of attempted murder. He had already admitted possessing a knife on school grounds. Prosecutors argued the attack was deliberate and planned; the defence claimed he brought the knife to school to “show off”.
Judge Paul Thomas KC said it was “pure luck” the teacher was not more seriously injured, noting the boy had shown no remorse and had taken the knife to school intending to cause serious harm. He emphasised the need to protect teachers and warned that pupils who attack staff with knives will lose years of their freedom.
The CPS said the case was a “shocking display of violence” and praised Ms Williams’ courage. | 290 |
| 19 |  A former finance employee who diverted almost £92,000 intended for a leading breast cancer charity into his own bank account and spent the money on personal debts, luxury purchases and travel has been sentenced.
Tameem Choudhury, formerly employed by Breast Cancer Now, appeared at the Royal Courts of Justice on 1st September 2026 where he was sentenced to two years and six months in prison after pleading guilty to fraud and money laundering offences.
The court heard that Choudhury, 29, of Gujarat House, Stoke Newington Church Street, London exploited his position within the charity's finance team to intercept a refund payment worth £91,966.72 that should have been returned to Breast Cancer Now.
Breast Cancer Now funds pioneering breast cancer research through grant funding awarded to institutions including The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
In 2023, a payment of £91,966.72 from The Royal Marsden was due to the charity. However, on 11 August 2023, Choudhury used his work email account to send altered bank details to The Royal Marsden on Breast Cancer Now headed paper. The bank account supplied belonged to him.
As a result, the refund payment of £91,966.72 was transferred into Choudhury's personal Santander account on 16 August 2024.
Within weeks of receiving the funds, Choudhury embarked on a spending spree, using the stolen money to pay off personal debts, make cash withdrawals, fund wedding and honeymoon expenses, purchase luxury items that included a £14,000 Alexander Brown ring, and transfer money to family members.
Over two days in September 2024 alone, he spent £49,100.47 of the stolen funds.
Evidence recovered during the investigation showed Choudhury was heavily in debt before receiving the money. Messages found on his mobile phone revealed him describing himself as "borderline broke" shortly before accessing the funds.
Investigators also uncovered evidence linking the stolen money to payments made to debt collection agencies, airline tickets for travel to Qatar, wedding-related spending, luxury retail purchases and transfers to relatives.
After suspicious activity was detected, Santander froze and later closed Choudhury's account. At the point it was frozen, £42,866.25 remained in the account and was subsequently recovered.
Following a report from Breast Cancer Now, officers from the City of London Police launched an investigation which led to Choudhury's arrest in June 2025.
