| 7 | Overall, although two of the three categories followed a downward trend, pension expenditure remained stable during the first half of the period before skyrocketing in the second half, overtaking the other categories by a considerable margin. It is also clear that medical care recorded the lowest figure by the end of the period, while the gap between the highest and lowest figures narrowed considerably.
In 2001, education stood out as the category with the highest expenditure, at an all-time high of 15%βa figure which slightly declined to 14% in 2021, after which it remained unchanged until the end of the period, when education ranked second among the three categories.
Medical care and pension expenditure followed contrasting trajectories, although both remained virtually stagnant during the first half of the period. Ranking second in 2001 at 11%, spending on medical care edged up to 12% in 2021, before subsequently plummeting to 4% in 2051, making it the category with the lowest expenditure at the end of the period. By contrast, pension expenditure started at just 6% in 2001 and remained unchanged until 2021. Thereafter, it experienced the most pronounced growth of all three categories, tripling to 18% in 2051, thereby surpassing the other figures and becoming the largest area of expenditure.

| 17 |  The line graph illustrates the number of people using four different modes of transport in an unspecified European country between 1996 and 2006. Overall, the use of private cars and other modes of transport followed an upward trend over the period, whereas the figures for motorcycles, bus and lorries either declined or remained unchanged. It is also clear that private cars were by far the most widely used means of transport throughout the period, whereas buses consistently accounted for the smallest number of users. Notably, the other category recorded the largest proportional increase.
Focusing first on the categories that became more popular, private cars remained the dominant mode of transport, rising from 19 million users in 1996 to a peak of 24 million in 2006, representing an increase of approximately 26% and reinforcing its leading position. Likewise, the number of people using other types of transport climbed markedly from 1.2 million to 1.9 million over the same period. Although it remained the second most commonly used category throughout the decade, it experienced the most pronounced growth, increasing by roughly 58%.
By contrast, the remaining categories bucked the trend. Motorcycle use stood at 1 million in 1996, twice that of lorries (0.5 million), before falling considerably to 0.6 million by 2006, a decline of 40%. Similarly, the figure for lorries decreased by 20%, reaching 0.4 million at the end of the period. Bus use, meanwhile, remained unchanged at 0.1 million throughout the decade, making it the least commonly used mode of transport during the period.
