#New initiative for CSE community#
Aspiring for Civil Services 2024? Golden opportunity for all of you awaits!
After a great response on our Mains 2023 mentorship initiative and repeated requests for 2024, we hereby announce another free community initiative for all those who are aspiring for Civil Services Examination 2024. We are willing to give you a platform for interaction with last year toppers of different subjects and optionals, along with people who have been constantly scoring well in the Preliminary Examination along with clearing the Forest cutoff. You may ask any and every kind of doubt regarding either Prelims or Mains or Both.
We propose to have daily answer writing sessions, we will have weekly schedules and help you to meet your targets, we shall also conduct tests for both prelims and mains. We shall try to have discussions every alternate days. This shall be a different initiative than 2023, since we get a lot of time, we'll devise it with utmost detailing. With the hope that proper guidance needs are met. Peer to peer evaluation, evaluation by toppers and smart approaches to arrive at answers to MCQs would be discussed as well.
Since CSAT is becoming a major hurdle even for veterans, we would have strategy sessions for that as well.
This initiative is absolutely free regarding:

3. Reviews regarding essays and GS papers.

Writing Mains 2023 ! Golden opportunity for you.
Hey all this is a free community initiative for all those who are writing mains 2023. We are giving you a platform for interaction with last year toppers of different subjects and optional. You may ask any doubt regarding syllabus completion, test completion within 3 hours and any other.
We will have toppers of different optional( 3-4 toppers per optional), essay(5-6 toppers of last year) and GS(6-7 toppers of each GS) in the house.

| 5 | Mains PYQs
Unfortunately there is no single good source for PYQs. One should cover last 10 years of PYQs.
Few pointers:
1) Google the entire question- one can easily find 3-4 model answers by some coaching. Glance through it and copy and paste important portion into your own document.
2) Use ChatGPT: a very good source. One may not find a very value added answers but flow and context wise- answers are decent.
3) There are few toppers who have shared their notes on PYQs and GS notes.
I would suggest to make your own PYQs notes. Use google and discuss within your peer group to come up with answers. Start with last 5 years questions
The focus should not be to rote learn PYQs model answers.
The process of referencing to PYQs- discussion with your peer groups- trying to write PYQs as your Daily Answer writing practice- using google to add value to your answersāā all this process helps you to improve your content, your analytical skill and your approach to the Mains examination

| 6 | With Prelims result out almost 10 days ago, I hope that those who cleared are into full fledged mains preparation.
Those who didnāt clear, remember this is not the end.
Few pointers for those who are freshers and those who didnāt clear this time:
1) By looking at the recent years toppers one can easily conclude that even many toppers have failed in their 1st/2nd prelims.
2) There is always risk factor involved when you are facing such a competitive exam. Through only two ways one can minimise the risk- good preparation and more attempts (one should also know when to stop)
3) UPSC has changed the way it used to ask questions. Many such surprises might come in future too. So what is the solution?
Prepare all the topics and practice testsā so almost no change the way we prepare?
A little:
Donāt think that whatever you prepare would be asked in the exam. Rather gain maximum knowledge according to syllabus and attempt large number of tests to make yourself ready for any kind of paperā helps in minimising blunders
And also, be ready for the worst. UPSC knows how to not ask questions from the materials popular in the market. Never miss core conceptsā helps in any kind of paper
4) UPSC wants you to consider CSAT as important as Paper 1. This has become so important that those who cleared CSAT this year- most of them have cleared Prelims also !!
ā there are many free videos available on YouTube. One can also join some guidance/coaching separately for CSAT.
5) Use this time to make mains preparation robust, so that once you clear prelims you clear mains also.
Enrich your GS- 1,2,3,4 and also optional. Watch recent toppers videos and do value addition in each topics. Also, write GS and Optional tests by December

Sociology - 10 Point Strategy
Hello Everyone,
In this session, I tried to crisply, yet comprehensively put together everything I've learnt about Sociology in my journey. So basically, my 5 years of learning summed up in about 50 minutes.
I have discussed the Sociology strategy in detail. It has aspects relevant to aspirants at each stage of Sociology Optional prep. The ones just starting out, and also the ones looking to improve marks in Socio.

If wd are coming in summer, posibility of coupling with cyclonic systems in arabian sea and BoB is high.. causing rainfall in southern and central India. Flash floods(Krishna, godavari valley is prone, small rivers on Western slopes are disastrous)
-- linked to - a probable question can be -- rising vulnerability of western coast (cyclone, monsoon, storm surge, apart from landslides, mining etc.)
-- presently west and north east under rainfall, odisha jharkhand under heat wave..

| 10 | GS1 STRATEGY
Hello Everyone
This is Manish, AIR 283 in CSE 2022. I got 123 in GS1 this year, an improvement from 101 in 2021 & 88 in 2020.
Here is a brief outline of my approach to GS1 and few things that I believe have worked well for me.
1. I have Geography Optional and that I believe, has been the major factor. So, for Geog people, Leverage that to your advantage. For others, I would suggest to prioritise Geography>History>Society.
2. Geography in GS1 lately have shifted towards Disaster Management and Environment. So, integrate GS1 with GS3 Preperation. Identify repetitive themes like Industrial Locations, Recent Disaster Events and Mechanisms etc. and prepare short notes and examples on them
3. For History, Prepare your own topic wise notes (I did it from Spectrum and Nitin Singhania) and try to brainstorm while revising to add few more points. In Answers, Try to add Specificity by adding Dates, Personalities and Specific Events. Similarly, In AnC Questions, Try to use names of Kingdoms or Kings or Contemporary Travellers or Books.
4. For Society, I used Forum IAS Booklet for Static topics like Caste, Regionalism etc and Vision 365 for CAs. Apart from that, I focussed more on Current Examples and Case Studies. (especially from June-August Newspaper) Society was my weakest portion in GS1
5. Maps/Diagrams/Schematics :
This I believe is the key to score Good Marks in GS1.
5.1 Geography : Its obvious to draw maps and diagrams in Geography. 2 things should be kept in mind. First, Try to enrich the diagrams and Maps. Label them and Make them a bit detailed so that they add value to the answer and not just consume space. For Eg. In Question on Floods, rather than just shading the Flood Prone area, one could : 1) Shade the Area. 2) Can mention Specific reasons of flooding in respective regions using some technical terms if you can. 3) Mention Specific Data or Flood incidents and enclose this in a Box.
Secondly, In Geography, It's Good if you're drawing comprehensive maps like India, World Map etc. Along with this, You can draw numerous regional maps, smaller in size. For example, In Question on Ocean Currents, I drew 1 World Map depicting Major Currents plus 5-6 smaller regional map to discuss their impact. You can draw as much as you want, so long as they are relevant and do not occupy too much space.
Thirdly, In Geography, I used to draw One Map immediately after introduction about the asked Phenomenon/Distribution etc.
5.2 Try to incorporate maps and diagrams in Non Geography Questions as well. Distribution Maps could be drawn. For example, Extent of Temple Architecture during medieval times with relevant Locations (2022), Spread of Bhakti Literature (2021) or Spatio-Temporal distribution of Famines during British Raj (2022)
5.3 Additionally, You can do one excersize that I used to do. Sit with question paper from any coaching institute and brainstorm for 10 minutes what possible maps or diagrams or value addition you can do in these Questions. Similarly, While revising Notes, Try to think about Maps/Diag/VA and draw them in your notes.
6. At last, Leave No Area (Not Just Page) in your QCAB Blank and write as many points as possible maintaining a balance between No. of Points and depth in Points.
Practice Drawing India and World Maps (in ~10-15 seconds) to save time for labelling. If @babayaga_ge John Wick can learn to draw Maps, Then Anyone can. Neat and clean diagrams will be cherry on the top.
GS 1 is one area where I believe there is relatively more certainty that Your efforts will result in marks.
