8-Dan Honor for a Pioneer of Go AI Professor Shun'ichi Amari, a pioneer in artificial intelligence and neuroscience, has been awarded an honorary 8-dan certificate by the Nihon Ki-in. Professor Amari’s groundbreaking research in neural networks and information theory laid the foundation for modern AI—including Go AI—and has greatly contributed to the spread of AI technology in the Go world. At the ceremony, Nihon Ki-in Chairman Yoko Takemiya honored Professor Amari’s achievements, highlighting his role in advancing deep learning and mathematical neuroscience. In addition to his research, Professor Amari has served as a council member and Go Ambassador, actively promoting the game. Congratulations to Professor Amari on this well-deserved recognition!

Hey guys, this is Vadim from Go Magic! I recently visited the Korean Prime Minister Cup that was held in Taebaek, South Korea. What a great experience! The first couple of days there was a fun pair Go tournament and after that the main event began. This year there was a separate youth division for the first time. Thanks to Ms Hyanghee Kim who organized a fun little tour for all non-participants. We visited a beautiful park area and then a Go salon. The very first day we got there, right after the opening ceremony we met the legend of Korean Go — Lee Sedol. I got a chance to play the board game that he created, and even got some tips on the gameplay from its famous creator. He said I was doing pretty well for a first-timer =) Stay gomagically tuned, because I bought a copy of this game and brought it back with me. 🎉 Sumire Nakamura Wins Her First Domestic Title in Korea! 🎉 Nakamura Sumire 4-dan, who recently transferred to the Korea Baduk Association, has claimed her first official domestic title by winning the 4th Hyorim Cup Future Empress Championship! In the final on November 6, Sumire defeated Jeong Yu-jin 5-dan, improving her head-to-head record against Jeong to 4 wins and 1 loss. The Hyorim Cup is a prestigious tournament for young female Baduk players born in 2003 or later, with 18 rising stars competing this year. Sumire, currently ranked 4th among Korean women, was the top favorite and lived up to expectations after several recent runner-up finishes. Because the legendary Honinbo Shusaku was born there about 200 years ago. These photos were taken in front of and inside the Shusaku Memorial Museum.
