🔴Day 2 Cervical Cancer Awareness Month
📌Cervical cancer is the fourth most common cancer among women worldwide, with about 569,847 new cases diagnosed and over 311,000 deaths every year. The majority of cases (over 80%) in sub-Saharan Africa are detected at a late stage, predominantly due to lack of information about cervical cancer and scarcity of prevention services.
📌Who is at Risk?
Several factors can increase the risk of developing cervical cancer:
🔺Early onset of sexual activity
🔺Multiple sexual partners
🔺History of sexually transmitted infection
🔺Low socioeconomic status
🔺Cigarette smoking
🔺Genetics
🔺Immunosuppression like in HIV/AIDS
🔺Long term oral contraceptive use

💙DAY-1 Cervical Cancer Awareness
Did you know that cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer among women worldwide, yet it is one of the most preventable? This silent disease, often caused by persistent infection with high-risk HPV (Human Papilloma Virus), can go undetected until it reaches an advanced stage.
However, with the right tools such as HPV vaccination, regular screening, and timely treatment—we have the power to stop cervical cancer before it starts. Awareness is key, as many cases are diagnosed too late, especially in low- and middle-income countries where resources are limited.
Let’s come together to spread knowledge, advocate for accessible prevention services, and encourage one another to take action. Remember, small steps today can save lives tomorrow.
💪🏼Join us in the fight to eliminate cervical cancer and create a healthier future for generations to come.

On December 12-13, SCORA Ethiopia had the honor of participating in the WEUNite Against GBV event hosted by the European Union Delegation to Ethiopia at Capital Hotel.
We had the amazing opportunity to host our own booth and proudly showcase the work and initiatives we’ve accomplished so far, standing alongside incredible international organizations, NGOs, and local CSOs. It was an inspiring two days filled with networking, meaningful conversations, and a shared commitment to ending gender-based violence.
Together, we’re creating change and building a future free from GBV! 🧡

🧡Commemorating 16 Days of Activism: What have we done so far?
Part1: Awareness creation on GBV🧡
💫As part of the global effort to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV), SCORA-AA joined events hosted by SCORA-Ethiopia and EngenderHealth at New Era Primary School and Dagmawi Minilik Secondary School. These sessions empowered students with essential knowledge on different types of GBV, risk factors like peer pressure, life skills on how to protect oneself, and ways to safely report and seek support.
Part2: HIV/AIDS Awareness Campaign 🩺
💫Under the national HIV/AIDS awareness campaign by SCORA Ethiopia, SCORA-AA organized an awareness creation campaign about HIV/AIDS. This campaign, held at Tikur Anbessa Specialised Hospital, was a great success, with our dedicated members raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, prevention strategies, and other vital information. We are proud to have kicked off this quarter with such an impactful initiative, aiming to bring positive change to our community.
✨We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our collaborators and everyone involved in these events. Together, we continue to stand united in the fight against violence, striving for a safer and more equitable future. 🌟

Day 3: understanding GBV and Exploring Types of Sexual Assault
Gender Based Violence (GBV) is more than a term—it's a reality faced by countless individuals worldwide. 💔 It encompasses harmful acts directed at someone based on their gender, often rooted in inequality and societal norms.
While women and girls are disproportionately affected, let’s not forget: GBV knows no boundaries. Men can also be victims.
Forms of GBV:
Physical Violence: Hitting, slapping, or any form of physical harm.
Sexual Violence: Rape, sexual assault, or coercion.
Emotional Violence: Manipulation, threats, humiliation
Economic Violence: Financial control or Withholding money.
⚠️ Awareness is the first step toward prevention. By recognizing the many forms of GBV, individuals, and communities, can take informed, meaningful action to end the cycle of violence.
