Summary of IND AS 36 – Impairment of Assets ✨ Important Questions for Nov 23 Illustration 11, TYK Q. 12, 13,14 TYK Q. 2, Illustration 10, 21 RTP Nov 23 - Q. 15 1. Recoverable value is the HIGHER of Net selling price and value in use 2. Impairment loss= Carrying value- Recoverable value (if positive) 3. Impairment loss should be first adjusted against REVALUATION SURPLUS and balance if any against PROFIT AND LOSS (just like how we do for loss on revaluation of assets IND AS 16) 4. Value in use= PV of cash inflows ( BEFORE deducting INTERST AND TAX) 5. We should use PRE TAX WACC for discounting cash inflows 6. Future restructurings/ improvements should be considered in future cash flows only if the entity is COMMITTED to restructuring/improvement (if nothing given we will always assume entity is not committed and we will not take it in value in use) 7. Both legal and constructive commitments is to be considered in future cash flows 8. PV of cash flows in foreign currency should be converted into Indian rupees by applying SPOT RATE       9. Salvage value should  be considered in VIU 10. Reversal of impairment is allowed for every assets except GOODWILL      11. Allocation of Impairment loss incase of CGU                 1.First allocate to goodwill                2. then balance to remaining assets except inventory– in ratio of CARRYING VALUE ( but make sure the vale of the asset doesn’t fall below their individual  recoverable value) 12. Goodwill under IND AS does not get amortised. It has indefinite life. However we have to check impairment for goodwill annually 13. Selling expenses refer to the incremental expenses that an entity will incur if it sells assets and which it will save if it does not sell the asset  14. Impairment loss will not be allocated to inventory but inventory should be included in CGU 15.Restoration cost should be deducted from carrying value 16. It is always assumed that restoration cost is already deducted from net SP and VIU. BUT if seperately given in qn that it is not deducted, only then we have to deduct it. 17.Allocation of allocable corporate assets is based on time based weighted average carrying values(if life not given then based on carrying values) 18.Reversal of impairment can be done only if there is increase in the service potential of the asset( that is Increase in the cash flow). Increase in recoverable value by passage of time cannot be considered as increase in service potential of the asset
