У меня есть + Subject» informs about a subject’s presence in general.
For example:
У меня есть сестра (=initial information about having a sister)
У нас есть проблемы (= some problems exist in our life, this is normal, everyone has problems).
«У меня + Subject» informs about an event that takes place at the moment of speech or in the nearest future, in the context «I am busy doing this».
У меня (сейчас) сестра. I am with my sister (=I am busy, my sister
is visiting me).
У нас проблемы. I am having problems (some problems, that I
have to solve immediately, have appeared).
😟For now, you're using this construction only with pronouns (у меня, у тебя, у него etc.) and don’t use it with nouns. That is, now you can say in Russian «He has a book» but you can’t say «Ivan has a book».
The problem is that after a Russian preposition «У» you should always use genitive case which if studied later. However, unlike nouns personal pronouns are unified in accusative and in genitive which makes it possible to use this construction until you will start learning the genitive itself. This also belongs to the Russian preposition «ДЛЯ», which is associated with the genitive, as well.
– Извини, не могу говорить. -Sorry, I can’t speak.
У меня клиенты. I am with my clients.
– Ты сегодня ходил на тренировку? -Have you been training today?
– Нет. Сегодня утром у меня -No. I’ve been with my clients
были клиенты. in the morning.
– Ты завтра утром идёшь на тренировку? -Are you going to the training
tomorrow morning?
– Нет, не могу. Завтра утором у меня (будут)16 клиенты -No, I can’t. I am meeting
my clients tomorrow morning.

Constructions «У меня есть + Subject» and «У меня + Subject»
Sometimes this construction doesn’t need «есть».
In this case the meaning of the sentence changes:
– У тебя сегодня есть урок? -Do you have a lesson today?
– Да, есть. -Yes, I do.
This dialogue says about having a lesson at some time during a day (but not right now and not in the nearest future).
– Извини, я не могу сейчас говорить. -Sorry, I can’t speak now.
У меня урок. I am having a lesson.
Here the speaker informs that he is at the lesson now or that this lesson is about to begin.
– А где Николай? -Where is Nicholas?
– У него отпуск (= Он сейчас в отпуске). Он отдыхает на даче.
-He is on holiday now. He is in the country.
– Ты не видел Марину? -Have you seen Marina?
– У неё тренировка. Скоро будет -She has a workout now. She will be back soon.
– Извините! У нас перерыв. -Sorry! We are having a break.
– У нас в магазине сегодня скидки. -We have discounts in our shop today.

Konstruktionen "У меня есть + Subjekt" und "У меня + Subjekt"
Manchmal braucht diese Konstruktion kein "есть".
In diesem Fall ändert sich die Bedeutung des Satzes:
- У тебя сегодня есть урок? -Hast du heute eine Unterrichtsstunde?
- Да, есть. -Ja, habe ich.
Dieser Dialog sagt aus, dass du irgendwann an einem Tag Unterricht hast (aber nicht jetzt und nicht in nächster Zukunft).
- Извини, я не могу сейчас говорить. -Tut mir leid, ich kann jetzt nicht sprechen.
У меня урок. Ich habe gerade Unterricht.
Hier teilt der Sprecher mit, dass er jetzt in der Stunde ist oder dass diese Stunde gleich beginnt.
- А где Николай? -Wo ist Nicholas?
- У него отпуск (= Он сейчас в отпуске). Он отдыхает на даче.
-Er ist jetzt im Urlaub. Er ist auf dem Lande.
- Ты не видел Марину? -Hast du Marina gesehen?
- У неё тренировка. Sie hat jetzt ein Training. Sie wird bald zurück sein.
- Извините! У нас перерыв. -Entschuldigung! Wir machen eine Pause.
- У нас в магазине сегодня скидки. -Wir haben heute Rabatte in unserem Geschäft.

P.S. "чем-то не пахнет" означает "это вообще не об этом" в переносном смысле.
"пахнуть"- smell/riechen.
Пахнет цветами, дождём, пирогом и т.д.
