Bihar needs more than affirmative action; it needs better paying jobs for incomes to rise. -According to the survey, 34.13% of 27.6million families in the state earned less than ₹6,000 a month—the benchmark to be classified as poor—and only 3.9% earned more than ₹50,000. Simply put, poverty is rampant in Bihar and is prevalent across all caste groups. The first response to the survey findings-- increase the quota(as only 4.8% of workforce is employed by the Government) is not enough and the govt must look beyond it. The affirmative action has already done well to empower non upper caste politically. Now it is high time to shift the Paradigm of Caste Empowerment to Income Raise. - Reservation is no magic pill for all the inequities in society. Moreover, reservations are enforceable only in the public sector, which is not a big employment provider— only two million people in Bihar have a government job. -The organised private sector -1.59 million employees. -10.7 million farmers -21.8 million as labourers.
