This is a matter of a 40-45 minutes lecture. I’ll try though. In COPD - expiration is more difficult and there is early closure of airways during expiration. Hence, patient is advised slow and deep inspiration (which opens the narrowed airways) , and a slow exhalation near higher lung volumes.
