Lost Highway is one of the highest peaks of David Lynch’s filmography, in terms of cinematography, atmosphere, and soundtrack. The film’s conception of time—perhaps a Möbius strip—has something in common with Nietzsche’s cyclical time, Giorgio Locchi’s spherical time, or the Buddhist saṃsāra. But more than anything else, it seems like a psychological maelstrom in which every character has a double—even the detectives—as in a Jungian interpretation of dreams. The theme of the double and the Doppelgänger, also typical, for instance, of Borges’s fiction, finds here one of its highest forms of expression. And what about the Mystery Man, who never seems to blink? He could be a symbol of the male unconscious, which does not need to enter the house because it has always been part of it. This is why he is able to “film” what is hidden inside without having to physically “enter” it. In any case, the ending deserves applause: the end is also a new beginning.

Ancient Germanic immigration law… Under Clovis’s Salic Law, if one wanted to settle in a village, he required the approval of every resident. Only once he made it through a year with no objections did he become a resident. One objection, and he’d be given ten days to leave, or face the Þing. Had he ignored the objection, he’d be fined, and have any earnings from the region confiscated. The law also contained a hefty penalty for marrying a foreigner, one who hadn’t earned residency. Lombard “triskele” and “triquetra” motifs with eagle — or perhaps raven — heads, found at Fiesole, Tuscany. It is worth noting that other shield bosses bearing similar decoration have been discovered at Collegno, in the locality of Varda — a toponym probably derived from the Germanic ward, referring to a guard or watch-post, and possibly connected with an earlier Ostrogothic presence — as well as in the Cuneo area, both in Piedmont. Not far from Collegno, at Moncalieri, a horse’s head was also unearthed, possibly associated with a Lombard ritual sacrifice performed at the time of their arrival in Italy in the 6th century AD. Eagles or ravens? Either interpretation opens up an intriguing perspective on the symbolic imagery of the Lombards in Italy.

Tribal Future of the West by Mike Maxwell issued by Imperium Press. This book gives a very profound insight into the historico-political morphology of Tribalism, Elitism and Central Sovereignty. Strictly linked to the unmissable lectures of Carl Schmitt on Sovereignty and at the same time with some references to the Indo-European "Mitra-Varuna" conception of power, Tyrric or Odinic, this essay provides a very balanced political point of view. Carl Schmitt lesson on emergency state and the actualizatin of it into contemporary western society reveals a brilliant accademic approach by the Author. It is remarkable that this Odinic/Tyrric sovereignity conception is strictly linked to the Dumezil opus "Mitra Varuna" that we translated in italian in 2024.

Few have pointed out the remarkable convergence between the ideas developed in James George Frazer's The Golden Bough and the narrative of Coppola and Milius' masterpiece Apocalypse Now. The film itself provides the clue: among the books Colonel Kurtz keeps within arm's reach is Frazer's The Golden Bough. Willard clearly emerges as the new King of the Wood at Nemi, sent to challenge and kill his predecessor, Kurtz, thus becoming the new Rex Nemorensis of Diana's sacred grove. It is no coincidence that Kurtz's execution is intercut with the ritual decapitation of a bull by the indigenous tribe, against the blazing backdrop of a ruined temple. A masterpiece that not only retells a story, but reactivates and deciphers an ancient myth.
