We are now living in a capitalist world, where the private sector is more powerful than ever. This, in turns, begs the question of its role in an important aspect of peopleβs lives: health. While there are some concerns associated with private health care, I would argue that the benefits are far too great to ignore.
The main advantage of private health care is the quality of service. The very fact of proprietary involvement means that business owners care about how they treat their customers, who will otherwise turn to better alternatives. This means that a patient seeking treatment in a private medical facility is bound to be catered to excellently β from medical attention to equipment. Although critics of the private sector may point to the lack of third-party regulation, raising concerns about the legitimacy of medical services it offers, I believe that the same issue is often observed in public hospitals.
From a purely medical perspective, too, the picture is rosier than one might think. Since doctors working for a private organization usually receive high salaries, they are not pressured to work long hours, allowing them to focus folly on one patient at a time. This is in stark contrast to government-run hospitals in Uzbekistan, where the apparent lack of competent doctors is painfully clear. Granted, profit-making hospitals may overcharge patients, but this is offset by the effective treatment available.
In conclusion, health care is certainly a significant part of our lives, but more so is the role of institutions providing it. Although there are some regulatory and financial concerns regarding proprietary medicine, its patient-targeted benefits usually overshadow these.
