Happy Birthday, our Alma mater ❤️ On September 4, 1918, the Moscow Mining Academy was established, and today MISIS University is its successor. Over its more than century-long history, many important events have taken place: the division of the academy into six independent institutes, the Great Patriotic War, scientific discoveries, major awards, and much more. One of them was being granted the status of "National Research Technological University" in 2008 — the first in Russia. Today, NUST MISIS is one of the leading research centers, training highly qualified specialists that work on cutting-edge projects. Over the years, we have opened 4 branches in Russia and 2 abroad. Scientists Find a Way to Prevent Implant Deformation NUST MISIS scientists have for the first time recreated the natural biomechanics of the ear in an implant produced using a 3D bioprinter. The bioprosthesis not only replicates the external shape of the auditory organ but also mimics natural tissues through its composition. The researchers successfully combined a polymer framework with a soft hydrogel containing living cells — something that had previously been impossible due to the limitations of 3D bioprinting.  In vivo tests confirmed that the implant develops a vascular network and successfully integrates into the body. ↗️ Read more

NUST MISIS Scientists Develop Membrane for Drug Testing Researchers at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering at NUST MISIS have developed a prototype porous polymer membrane with a microrelief that mimics the folded surface of the intestine. Based on this membrane, they created an intestinal barrier model whose permeability is 100 times closer to that of human small-intestinal tissue than that of a standard laboratory model. The technology could ultimately improve the accuracy of preclinical drug testing. ↗️Read more

NUST MISIS Students in China ✈️ From July 12 to 25, students of the College of Economics & Management went to internship at Anhui University of Finance and Economics (AUFE) in China. The program included not only lectures, but also classes that offered a closer look at the country's culture and traditions. During the internship, the students visited research centers, universities, and industrial enterprises. The organizers also arranged excursions to cultural and tourist sites to immerse the participants in Chinese history.

"I would like to express my gratitude to the university for providing this opportunity to study in China. What struck me first and foremost was the organization of the academic process. Despite the tight schedule, the classes were structured so that we had time to both absorb new material and immerse ourselves in the culture", shares one of the participants, Daniel Sagdiev, student of Management program.

"What stood out to me most was the production culture: clear labor organization, strict quality control, and on-the-spot problem-solving. I was able to apply my theoretical knowledge to a specific production setting and receive feedback. This experience gave me not only new competencies but also an understanding of how to work effectively in an international team", says Artyom Telegin, student of Business Analysis, Audit, and Taxation.

Dreaming of studying and living in Russia? Let the dreams come true 💫 At MISIS University, we have a Preparatory Department for applicants from near and far abroad, and we offer training for international citizens. The program will help you prepare for admission to our university and learn more about Russian culture. For your studies, you can choose one of several tracks, which include not only a Russian language module but also additional subjects. The choice of track depends on which direction you plan to develop in and which programs you intend to apply to after completing the preparatory department. You can also choose a course where you will study only the Russian language. Please note: the duration of studies may vary depending on the program. Waiting for Our Chinese Freshmen 🇨🇳❤️ Yesterday, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China (UESTC) held the first entrance exam for the joint master's program between NUST MISIS and UESTC in "Materials Science and Technology". The entrance tests, conducted remotely, were successfully passed by 19 Chinese bachelor's graduates from leading universities in China who are applying for the program. This is the first intake of students since the agreement between the universities was signed and the joint educational initiative was launched. 🤝 The conduct of the first entrance exams became an important milestone in the implementation of the joint Russian-Chinese educational project aimed at developing academic cooperation between Russia and China, expanding international educational partnership, and is being carried out within the framework of the Cross Years of Russia-China Cooperation in Education. A second round of entrance exams is scheduled for August.

New Algorithm Helps Detect Plant Diseases from Photos of Leaves 🌱 Researchers at NUST MISIS have developed an artificial intelligence algorithm that detects plant diseases from photographs of leaves while performing more reliably under varying lighting conditions, backgrounds, and image geometry. The newly developed model achieved higher accuracy than the baseline neural network model: the proportion of correctly identified cases increased from 87.5% to more than 93% on the experimental dataset. The system was better at detecting mild disease symptoms, proved less sensitive to variations in background and lighting, and interpretation maps showed that the model focused on biologically meaningful features such as leaf veins, spots, and damaged tissue. ↗️Read more

NUST MISIS Students Go to China 🇷🇺🇨🇳 On July 12, the international internship program for students of NUST MISIS College of Economics started at Anhui University of Finance and Economics. Based on the results of a competitive selection process, 25 students were given this opportunity. The program includes lectures from market practitioners, visits to high-tech enterprises in China, and live dialogue with international experts and business community representatives. The students will also get acquainted with the culture of China, such as tea ceremonies and core principles of business etiquette.
