Visa, Mastercard, and BlackRock are backing Open Standard (OUSD), a new stablecoin initiative launching with over 140 partnersβStripe, Coinbase, and others included.
Led by Zac Abrams, Open Standard introduces a novel approach: free transactions, yield from reserve assets, and governance shared among partnersβsetting it apart from USDC and Tether.
Open USD enables unrestricted, cost-free minting and redemption. Partners collect nearly all reserve earnings after a minimal fee. Decision-making is managed by a council of contributing partners.
Stripe has already adopted Open USD as its default stablecoin. The official rollout is expected later this year.
