"The night before, as the people of Miami went to the polls to choose from 15 candidates 3 men for office, the old specter of the Ku Klux Klan was raised to frighten the colored voters. A convoy of more than 50 cars drove through the black neighborhood of Miami with carefully hidden license plates. Men sat inside, peering out from under bedsheet-like Ku Klux Klan robes. Knobby nooses hung from some car windows, a silent threat of lynching. From the car windows, they threw fliers with red letters: “Dear Negro Citizens, No Tomorrow vote." When the vote took place the next day, Miami received an object lesson in the effectiveness of the Klan's methods - there were five times more black votes than at any time in the city's history."
