The main rule about good work How you do anything is how you do everything. It all matters There are people who say "we work the way we are paid." And they do garbage. This is a fairly common point of view. But you need to understand very well: such people cannot be trusted with any work. If a person does a garbage job, then he does a garbage job. This can't be changed. And vice versa - if a person works garbage (under the pretext that he is underpaid), then he does not learn anything. And if you offer him a lot of money, he will still do garbage. My advice to everyone for all ages is that you should always work as well as possible, regardless of the circumstances. Because you can change your job, but your own skills do not change so quickly. If you don't like your job, leave. And if you work, don't lie, work well.

Just as eating cow-meat doesn’t turn you into a cow, studying philosophy doesn’t make you wiser.

Buy the thing that professionals use, not the consumer version. A professional chef's apron. The actual contractor-grade tool. Often not much more expensive, lasts forever. Buy from people who cannot afford to be fooled.

Reading about something feels like learning. It isn't. But it's easier than doing. These posts will change nothing in your life. But you'll follow Inkzy anyway.

Personal growth trainings Personal growth training is the dumbest invention of our time. Because the horoscope is at least free. Disgusting charlatans cynically exploit people's depressions to instill in them the idea of superpowers. And these superpowers are always about money. Not a single training promises listeners that in a year they can become brilliant eye surgeons or sought-after car designers, but it promises a million dollars. They make you stand up in a rented conference hall and announce to forty strangers that you've been transformed and will be a millionaire within the year. Now you can't back out. You said it out loud. Backing out means you were an idiot in front of forty people, so instead you buy the advanced course. Normal people fall for this too. In a year there's no million. There never is. The trainer, though, got his.

Forgotten thought When a thought comes to mind, you hold it in your head for a while, and then suddenly it flies away. And at that moment, it seems that the forgotten thought is the most important in the world! Therefore, everyone should adopt a simple rule - as soon as a thought appears, immediately write it down in a format that will help you remember what you came up with. There was supposed to be some awesome thought instead of this post, but I just forgot it. I was sending a meme but didn’t manage to write three words after it to remember what to write about. Got carried away with the conversation - and forgot. Don’t be like me.

Surprisingly Good Service Customers are used to being maltreated. Most companies they deal with are quasi-monopolies that get away with atrocious service. Your own ideas about what's possible have been unconsciously lowered by these experiences. Try making your customer service not merely good, but surprisingly good. Go out of your way to make people happy. They'll be overwhelmed. In the earliest stages, it pays to offer service that wouldn't scale. It's a way of learning about your users. And people will remember. They'll tell others. One overwhelmed customer is worth ten satisfied ones.

Ideas Can Morph Every big startup could say, five years later: "Believe it or not, we started out doing ___." Your initial idea doesn't matter as much as you think. What matters is that you're on the ground, hunting down your users. Understanding them. Ideas are not precious things to be protected. The idea you launch with is just a pretext for engaging users. Once you engage them, they'll tell you what to build. Most of the ideas appear in the implementing.

Launch to Learn You launch fast because you haven't actually started working until you launch. Everything before launch is just guessing. Launching teaches you what you should have been building. Until you launch, you're wasting your time. The product you launch with is just an excuse to engage users. That's it. An excuse to start learning.

A Reason to Connect A few months ago, I started a format that worked far better than I expected: Walk & Talk. I walk almost every day, so I began inviting interesting people to join me. Over the last 9 months I've met a wide range of people this way. It changed my life. The Walk & Talk format is still there, but I'm expanding the format: I'm now also inviting people to lunch or dinner with me in Tashkent, on Sundays. To save time and increase your chances of a reply: I have no status-related criteria, but I do have substantive ones. I'm happy to walk or eat with anyone as long as I see some value in the meeting for myself. For example, "let's go outside!" gives me nothing. But "I'm doing this cool thing in area N, and I'd be happy to tell you everything about it." That's value. If you're interested, write to me at @umarworks. We'll sort out the details there. I'm especially interested if you work in education. I'm open to anyone with something substantive to offer. Sorry to everyone else. See you soon!

People will care about you if you act like you care about them. And the easiest way to act like you care about them, is to actually care about them.
