+1Abdominal radiographs in sigmoid volvulus will show a large, dilated loop of the colon, often with a few gas-fluid levels. Specific
signs include:
● coffee bean sign
● Frimann-Dahl sign - three dense lines converge towards the site of obstruction
● absent rectal gas
● liver overlap sign-sigmoid loop is seen in RUQ of abdomen and projection over liver shadow.
● northern exposure sign- has been described as a high specificity sign in sigmoid volvulus. On a supine
abdominal radiograph, the apex of the sigmoid volvulus is seen above (cranial to) the transverse colon.
