Dublin 13th May - Here's a recap video from last weekend to give you an idea of what to expect in Dublin, then IFS later this year. https://youtu.be/gU1ZeKKzGi4

Those of you coming to the Melbourne business mentorship day tomorrow. Don’t drive if you have the choice. I have put a few thousand dollars behind the bar for after the event so we can all mingle. Few beers and what not. 🥂

FUCK ME, this is what I thought marketing was when I began as a PT. I was the first to the gym so I figured I'd put my facebook page on the boot of my car and park it our front. I had a job in a previous life in signage so don't get me wrong, stickered it like a boss but one thing is apparent here. I HAD NO IDEA HOW TO MARKET A BUSINESS. I was a great coach, I cared and I was ambitious, but I didnt' have a clue. I'm half embaressed and half proud of myself for making an effort. 9 years later its safe to say I finally cracked the sales and marketing part of the job, I'm now sharing 9 years of experience for what you guys make in 3-4 hours. Melbourne this weekend, then I'm flying back to host a big day with you all in Dublin, then I'll be back again in September for IFS. Excited to share with you all what I learned in nearly a decade of doing this.

A lad who was considering coming to one of my business talks was hesitating a bit once he looked at the price of accomodation and the flights. So I got him to jump on a quick call with me for 30 minutes. I recorded our call and you can watch it and take the learning nuggets from it here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHPXncLoxXs

Let me tell you this, from experience.80% of your headaches come from 20% of your clients. One of the first things you should consider is firing your clients who give you headaches. The ones who pay late, turn up late, cancel and mess you around. Fire them. You now get to eradicate 100% of your headaches for only a 20% pay cut. You now enjoy your job more, you’re a better trainer to your clients and you’re rich in the currency most important to me, happiness. Now, with 20% more time on your hands you can begin to spend some time working ON YOUR BUSINESS, not IN YOUR BUSINESS. You see, almost everyone works in their business, doing PT sessions. Not many people work on their business.

Do you have an email list? Because let’s remove the context from all of this for a second. If the goal was to get laid. You don’t just wanna walk the dance floor the entire night hoping 1x person says yes when you drop the Crazy Stupid Love line of “let’s get out of here”. If you really want to dominate selling whatever it is you’re selling. You want to collect data when you’re dancing. I’d much rather get 10 phone numbers in a night. Because the best prospects don’t wanna have sex on a night out, they’re enjoying time with their friends. So they may say they’re not interested, but the truth is, they’re just not interested right now. The beauty of getting numbers is you can, during the week text all those 10 people and arrange at least 5x dates. Someone letting you down when you have 10x numbers is no drama. Not vibing on one of those dates, you won’t worry because you have another the next day.See what I mean?! If you’re not collecting data from your time on social media. You’re going to struggle dating in the world of business. If you want to learn how to dominate these fields, come to Melbourne 22nd April, Dublin 13th May or IFS events In september

I could be wrong about this one: So what do you do when you're a PT and you're full. Take on a coach to work for you? AT BEST you'll take a % of their income but... as soon as they're good enough to do it on their own, trust me, they'll go off on their own. When looking to add a revenue stream to your income, hiring someone is a fucking nightmare. 3 ways to build a business: - get more clients - get your existing clients to buy more from you - get your existing clients to buy more frequently from you Most of you in this group could add 20% to your income (Rather than skimming 20% off another coaches income) by asking half your clients if they'd want to train more frequently with you. Another way to do this. IF you sell a 12 block, don't do a session a week for 12 weeks. Do 2x a week for 6 weeks. Ultimately they want to become self sufficient or knowledgeable in a shorter period of time not a long one. There are dozens of ways to earn more money without bringing another coach into the fray. UNLESS YOU OWN THE GYM, you don't need other coaches 99.9% of the time.

Lad I used to play rugby with. Was working hours for the gym for "free rent" THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE. You can absolutely do it in the beggining, but 15 hours a week cleaning machines for free rent isn't free ITS MINIMUM WAGE! You should all aspire to be the most expensive personal trainer in the gym within the next year. Why? Because you will automatically be percieved as the best because of it. However, the exact way to do it i'll be covering in MELBOURNE 22nd APRIL, DUBLIN 13th MAY and BRIGHTON September at IFS Events 🙂

This is from a slide in my upcoming talks in Melbourne & Dublin. CPA: Cost per aquisition. When we look at advertising or even boosting a certain post with a certain objective. Many of us are hesitant to spend money - we need to think about some concepts. CPA: how much are you spending to aquire a new client? I mean, ok, sure £50 on an advert seems a lot to get one measly client. But if you're charging £40 an hour, you make that back in less than 1.5 sessions. So then we need to think about AVERAGE CUSTOMER VALUE. if you average a client that stays with you for 3x blocks of 10 PT before they have the confidence to do it on their own. THE CUSTOMER IS WORTH £1200. So suddenly, if you know the average person to your business is worth 1200 pounds a pop. Why not spend £100 to aquire them? After all, business adverts are a tax deductible. On that £1200 earning, most of you are paying 2-300 of that to the tax man anyway. Even all the people who see your advert and don't become a customer still see YOU doing things other trainers aren't. This is just ONE SLIDE from the upcoming talk. don't miss it.

DUBLIN: tickets currently 50% off https://www.jamessmith.live/business

To all of you coming to my Melbourne & Dublin events, I'll be putting you all in a group from the QR code to support you from the day on. I'll be sharing all the resources and slides for you to keep too!

My opinion: after your second year of personal training, you should be out the gym by 4pm every day. IF YOU START WORK EARLY FINISH EARLY. My god, don't spend 12 hours a day in a gym, that's not sustainable for a good life or a family life. If you're working weekends or you're working long days, there's 2 reasons, you're too cheap and / or your marketing sucks.

Some of you are new to the industry, others are slightly older titans, I get it. I've been chatting to some of you via email today. Just wanna leave this here and say this. $87 billion! The market value of the global fitness industry is over $87 billion. The US fitness industry revenue in 2021 was $33.25 billion. In the United States, 39% of Americans hold gym memberships. Between now and 2028, the fitness industry is expected to grow 171.75% to $434.74 billion. SOME OF YOU ARE MAKING £1000 a week, $2000 and THAT IS GREAT IT REALLY IS. But don't be satisfied with that. Get your worth. Get your slice of the cake! YOUR SKILLS ARE NEEDED! I know a lot of you say 'you're not in it for the money' and that's valiant, I say that too. BUT BURNOUT DOESN'T OFTEN OCCUR IN WELL PAID COACHES. Burnout is often the frustration of doing so much work and having so little to show for it. You should be pissed off if your slice of the cake is small, you should want to be doing something about it! I know the economy is making things harder, but damn, don't aim to get by... aim to pay off your parent's mortgage. Letttt's go.

Those of you wanting to work online as a PT. You need thousands of hours behind you of face to face PT, I'm sorry but you do. You need to remotely understand the issues people are facing, it's very difficult to do this if you haven't got the experience from face to face. If you want to succeed online long term, get busy face to face in the short term. It's like university, it will take 3 years but you get paid to do it.

content ideas: 1) note down your client's problems 2) now answer them Bosh, that's your next 2 years covered 😂 No one gives a fuck what you ate today No one gives a fuck what workout you just did No one gives a fuck, just help people with their problems

Getting clients online. I remember one day I posted a post "NOW TAKING ONLINE CLIENTS" Want to know how many clients I got? 0? So I assumed no one wanted online training. Truth is, it's the fastest growing part of personal training right now. If you don't do what you need to in the next 2 years you will miss the waves you need to ride and you'll be left behind like the Blackberry phone when it failed to realise that THE ENVIRONMENT AROUND IT was changing. Blackberry went from 50% to less than 1% of the market share in a handful of years. The truth to getting online clients, it's not hard, but there is a proven system of doing it. I know some of you are coming to see me in Melbourne next month. I know a lot of you are coming to IFS in September but you're sat there thinking I DONT WANT TO WAIT THAT LONG. So I'll be real with you guys, I'm looking at flights to the UK for early May and I'm also trying to solidify a venue in the UK and one in Ireland where we can all sit down and do a Pre-IFS day to get you guys up to date with the MOST IMPORTANT concepts of aquiring online clients. You need - effective call to actions - squeeze pages - landing pages (not a website) - the 5 steps for success on your landing page - a modern marketing medium (emails, telegram etc) - the trust building template In 2017 I was making £4,000 a week with a editable PDF program, a social media funnel and using whatsapp for desktop. YOU ALL HAVE SO MUCH MORE OPPORTUNITY THAN I DID. My biggest pushback in 2017 was "how can you train someone online?" So please keep an eye on this group and I'll let you know when I can solidify some dates, give me a thumbs up or heart if you'd be keen for a UK&I event in the next couple months.

Investing in your sales and marketing strategy. Yeah I got events coming up blah blah blah. But let's say someone wants £400 / $800 to make your sales process just 25% more efficient.... Seems like a bum deal, but if you close just 1x CLIENT for a 10 pack of PT, you already made that money back. If I spend $100,000 on advertising a year and it makes me $200,000 in sales. If someone can make my sales process twice as efficient for a $15,000 consultation, the $15,000 is a lot, but its irrelevant when it means you can MAKE MORE MONEY. Giving you the tools to increase your hourly rate by £2.50/$5 is another £4000 / $8000 a year... let alone teaching you how to invest in multiple revenue streams. These things aren't costs, they're investments. Going out COSTS Meals out COSTS Fancy clothes COSTS Coming to my events makes you more money long term and costs less than a gucci tshirt.
