Coco Chanel said this and she wasn't wrong!
Image is what will determine your first impression of someone.
During Cohort 5 Graduation ceremony, Pauline Kathure Kiraithe said,
"You will never find me wearing crocs even at the supermarket".
We laughed but she emphasised on how dressing matters. She went on ahead & said,
"If I'm in the supermarket with my crocs on & I meet my client who we're on negotiations,
there's a high likelihood that the client may have a bad impression of me and end up not giving me business".
Dear Freelancers & Professionals,
if you're targeting CEOs, Founders, and Top Managers in Corporates & Organisations, you ought to look EXECUTIVE!
There's no other way!
Nobody should lie to you, how you present yourself matters a lot.
You can't be having so many photos with jeans, blurry photos, shabby backgrounds,
and you think a Director of a Bank will send you a message?
Now don't get me wrong, a photo of you with jeans once in a while is okay.
It's okay to share smart casual photos especially during the weekend.
However, I have noticed that majority don't look the part.
I mean, I have shared photos of me with jeans before but majority of my look is Executive.
I aim to have an Executive presence on LinkedIn.
I have met majority of my clients who are leaders & they shared its significance.
I always feel proud when I show up to a meeting and any person who comes to say hi to my client,
my client will proudly introduce me to them.
It's because I dress the way I desire to be addressed.
I remember when I first met with a certain client who said,
"Muthoni, you dress powerfully that draws someone to be associated with you.
The Executive look is what made me want to work with only you because image matters."
I was humbled and I realised investing in my look didn't go in vain.
Moreover, how you dress also determines, your worth.
You can't be quoting high over the market price yet your image doesn't look so.
A great example is my role model Melanie Borden, she dresses Executively and I admire that a lot.
Your image determines how you monetize your personal brand.
So why not invest in it?

| 12 | You greatest strength could be your greatest weakness.
Back in college, when we started learning writing, I hated the classes.
Why?
Because I wasn't good at it yet Journalism involves writing.
Every time we would be given an assignment, I regretted why I took it up.
Then came an opportunity to write scripts as a freelance writer for Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD),
I took it up immediately.
It was 2020 when Covid broke.
We were all at home not knowing what the future holds.
When the opportunity came to me, I shared a script that I actually didn't write myself 🤭.
It was from group work and I took it up as my own.
It was written so well that it landed me the job.
On my way home in the matatu, I began panicking.
What did I just get myself into? 🤣🤣
I reached out to my colleague who wrote the script and I told her that I would need her help to write scripts.
She was kind enough to help me out.
But guess what?
Eventually I wrote majority of the scripts by myself.
It may have been the money that motivated me but I became good at it 😂.
Few years down the line, I am a
ghostwriter as a LinkedIn Brand Manager and I'm damn good at it 🤭.
Storytelling became my second love, and I embrace writing as my main source of income.
I have been a writer for the past 5 years.
2020: Scriptwriter.
2021: Feature & Script writer
2022: Content Writer.
2023: Ghostwriter- LinkedIn Brand Management.
2024: Ghostwriter- LinkedIn Brand Management.
Today, what was once my greatest weakness is now my greatest strength.
It was all a mindset shift and putting in the work.
My passion is storytelling and writing.
I love it here!
