The most important consideration when choosing any career or job is having a high income. To what extent do you agree or disagree? It is assumed that the highest priority when people choose a job is salary. While there is some truth in the assertion that people desire a high income, this does not necessarily mean it is the most significant factor. A high income almost always facilitates a more comfortable life. When people are financially independent, they will have instant access to healthcare, food and traveling, all of which contribute to a better life compared to those who struggle with money. Another argument is that after years of rigorous academic training to become a professional, it only makes sense when people want high salaries. Doctors, for example, have to study around 10 years before they can get a job and I do not think they would settle for a job which pays less than they deserve. That being said, there are more important aspects of jobs that need to be taken into account. The most obvious one is probably job satisfaction. Even when people have high-paid yet depressing jobs, not only can this have a detrimental effect on their performance at workplace, but it may also influence other aspects of their lives such as health and personal life. Apart from this, working conditions should be prioritized over money. If people’s contribution is always underappreciated or there is unfair treatment towards them in the workplace, I believe no money can compensate these. In conclusion, how much money a person earns in their jobs is no doubt important; though, other factors such as satisfaction they get from what they do and how they are treated in the workplace are of more significance.
