In spring, you may find many children (accompanied by some parents) in the Netherlands walking around in groups. Or maybe even some adults. This is due to the Avondvierdaagse: you will walk a certain distance each evening for 4 consecutive days and will be rewarded with a medal for doing so. Kids do so in many cities and villages, but it's not always during the same week. However, most of the time it's in June or July. For kids the regular distances they walk are: 3km, 5km, 10km or 15km a day, depending on the age. Ik loop. I am walking. انا امشي. Hij loopt. He is walking. هو يسير. Zij loopt. She is walking. إنها تمشي. Wij lopen. We are walking. نحن نمشي. Zij lopen. They are walking. إنهم يمشون. In some cities they organise a vierdaagse for adults, of which the most renowned is the one in Nijmegen. It is walked during daytime. In order to receive a medal in Nijmegen, distances of 30km, 40km or 50km have to be walked each day. This, of course, attracts many spectators who gather in the city to enjoy all sorts of festivities. The Vierdaagsefeesten are well known in all of the Netherlands.
