I finished the last page of my book today. Writing this has been a humbling experience and promises to be the most critical work that I have ever done in my life. It is a inspirational and educational in a way that will make your heart sing with joy! I am still praying about the title.
-450 pages.
-Spanning history-from the last Ice Age to the Space Age.

Please indulge me this week as I remember the day our country, and really the world, changed forever Three weeks prior I was viewing the Twin Towers from a park with my cousin Rosalie after another trip back to FEMA. The moment on the news about the plane, I called my eldest daughter and then got in my car to work. We had been watching planes since some foreigners were taking pilot classes in Florida. I entered the building and our counter-terrorism specialist had arrived. He was shaking his head as he had recounted that he was talking to his car radio saying, "They should not be saying that. They are scaring people." Once he arrived at work he learned the tragic and dreadful truth, that is was in fact true. Our training from the previous two years kicked in. Our Director and Assistant Director were in NY, as were all the Emergency Managers across the US, for "the show". We would not see or hear from them them again until the fly ban had been lifted, almost a week later. We settled into our respective jobs. Terrorism was a serious threat that was planned for and we had all taken numerous classes, just in case. That said, though the air was stifling that something was about to happen, naïvely we did not really expect what would occur on Sept. 11th. On that fateful day my job was working with the military to check all infrastructure for any signs of terrorism. Malls, bridges, freeways, dams, water supply. Nobody knew how big the attack would be in those early moments.... Our Hot Wash would take place at Midnight. We were all exhausted and we did not know the half of it that night. It was very strange because in one way it seemed like mere seconds and yet, in another way it seemed like weeks. It would be 3-4 weeks before I even looked up to see any TV footage... even though the TV was on in the EOC. It is all a blur now.... phone call after phone call. I think I went home for a few hours sleep and then back to work before the sun rose on September 12th. This is the best documentary of the tragic day that started out just to film NY firefighters.
