FIFA president Gianni Infantino says he has scrapped the controversial plan to sell off stakes in the governing body's major competitions following widespread opposition ❌ In a statement, Infantino said: “Having listened carefully to all the views, it has become clear that the project has created divisions of a nature that, regardless of the level of support, are no longer in the interest of the objective set out in the first place."

Chelsea have been fined £10 million and given a suspended transfer ban following an investigation into 74 alleged breaches of the English Football Association’s regulations. The west London side were also initially hit with a suspended six-point deduction by an independent regulatory commission, which handed out the punishments, before this was overturned on appeal.  Chelsea were instead given a two-window transfer ban, which is suspended until June 30, 2027. The FA can apply to activate that ban if Chelsea are deemed to have potentially committed any similar breaches.

Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio will stand trial in September over the alleged sharing of intimate footage involving a minor, despite both alleged victims withdrawing their complaints against him. Asencio is facing two charges — allegedly distributing the video without consent, and allegedly sharing a sex tape involving a minor. [The Athletic]

Franco Baresi, the legendary former AC Milan defender and Italy international, has passed away at the age of 66. Baresi played 719 games for Milan across 20 consecutive seasons, winning six Serie A titles and three European Cups. Fulham are advancing in talks with Real Madrid over a move for attacking midfielder Cesar Palacios. Palacios, 21, is the latest Madrid academy graduate Fulham have targeted since appointing Alvaro Arbeloa as head coach this summer. Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi has undergone surgery on a foot injury and is expected to be out for three to four months. The 20-year-old suffered the injury during Bournemouth’s pre-season trip to Austria and returned to England for treatment. He had surgery on Wednesday and will likely not return until around October or November.
