Note, the original claim was made by the Yemeni and then the Saudi representatives at the UN Security Council (chaired by Saudi Arabia and the UK) over the Strait of Bab el-Mandeb. These claims were then echoed by Saudi media, from internal media to Riyadh-owned international outlets, including al-Arabiya, as Rerum Novarum reported earlier. There is currently no evidence of the laying of mines in the Bab el-Mandeb. The claims by the UNSC representatives and Saudi media seem to be yet another attempt by Riyadh to turn the Yemeni file into an international cause, and to get the US, the UK, and the EU to support its cause.
