If you have any friends or family members who support One Nation, please perform a welfare check immediately. Reports indicate many are struggling to cope with recent events.
A few tips:
• Approach slowly and speak calmly, using the same tone you’d use with a tired toddler. Researchers have found the average 3-year-old displays slightly higher levels of curiosity and critical thinking, but the science is ongoing.
• Avoid showing them facts, statistics or historical evidence. Sudden exposure to reality may cause confusion, anger or a Facebook post written entirely in capital letters.
• Print out photos of Pauline and Gina, glue them to cardboard and use simple visual cues. Point and slowly say “bad person” while exaggerating your lip movements like Ms Rachel. Keep instructions short and avoid words with more than three syllables.
• If they begin yelling “LEFTIE!” or “ALBO SUPPORTER!”, don’t panic. This is simply their fight-or-flight response kicking in. Stay calm and avoid direct eye contact.
