i called my ex today.
yes, THAT ex. the one whose social media and playlists had me working overtime as a part-time FBI agent, full-time clown, and unpaid analyst for the Department of Delusion. every little thing felt like a subliminal message. every playlist? a potential confession. every song? a breadcrumb.
and i genuinely thought i had moved on months ago.
BUT THEN I SAW HIM IN SEPTEMBER.
and suddenly my brain said, βactually, babe, remember that entire emotional graveyard we buried? letβs excavate it. for funsies.β
so today, after one too many episodes of me mentally connecting dots that probably weren't even in the same universe, i finally snapped.
i was like: GIRL. ENOUGH. i cannot keep living like a Victorian woman waiting for a letter from a man who doesn't even know she's in the trenches. I NEED TO HEAR THIS PERSONβS VOICE.
i needed reality to slap the delusion out of me. i needed confirmation that it was DONE done. no secret door. no hidden meaning. no romantic plot twist waiting around the corner.
so i called him.
and GIRL. the call did exactly what it needed to do. once again, this person appeared to be not the sharpest tool in the shed.
and the RELIEF??? OH MY GOD. it was like my brain finally received the official termination letter from the Department of Hope. the door didn't just close. it got bricked up, painted over, and turned into a fucking wall.
BUTTTTTT.
just because i finally understood that something was over didn't mean it didn't hurt. hearing him like that felt like grieving someone who had already died once. like I was mourning a person who still exists somewhere on this planet, just not in my life anymore.
and that kind of grief is so weird because how do you explain missing someone who's literally alive? how do you mourn a future that never happened? how do you say goodbye to a version of someone who only exists in your memories and in the little universe you built around them?
i couldn't even cry. and I WANTED TO SO BADLY. just let it all out, flush the system, and maybe stop buffering for five fucking minutes.
but no tears. just me lying in bed, staring at my ceiling like it owed me answers, silently begging the universe to PLEASEEEEE send something my way. anything. a sign. a distraction. a plot twist. a cute dog. a meteor. I'M NOT PICKY.
i just needed something to interrupt the loop playing in my head.
after that, i called my dad because sometimes you need to talk to someone who loves you unconditionally. and i kept asking him the same question: why the fuck do i care so much about this person???
like, genuinely. WHY?
his life is no longer my business. his choices are no longer my business. his playlists, his feelings, his little romantic adventures, his entire cinematic universe??? NONE OF MY BUSINESS. and the worst part is that he's so in love with somebody else at this point that I cannot keep showing up emotionally at a door where someone else's name is already on the mailbox.
i have to let him go. not because the love meant nothing, but because it meant something to ME, and i deserve to give that love somewhere it can actually live.
after the call, i decided to go for a walk.
fresh air. favorite song. a little serotonin. i was walking, listening to my favorite song, and typing the message you see in the screenshot above.
