I'm outside in the warm and rising sun. Two cold brew and raw milks deep. I hate coffee. This is my last one. Caffeine is a false god. Sunday morning. A fist-fight with a college professor over the existence of space. He thinks it's all real, thinks we landed on the moon and all this other nonsense. He charges at me and gets dropped in one hit. It's pretty silly how NASA has been driving toy cars around a movie set with orange dirt for thirty years and telling us it's this grand exploration of the planet Mars. There are thousands of satellites orbiting the Earth but nobody can see them. Not once have they been photographed by a civilian, or by anyone. So strange. Thousands of cell satellites but when you're closest to them, flying in a plane, your phone has zero service. So very strange. I could have made a more convincing moon landing film myself. Reanimate the corpse of Nixon and let's do it all again. Come on, it'll be better this time. Some people believe that we made a phone call from space but deny the existence of God. Sour Grapes You could do it better. Definitely, but you don't, because you're too busy doing more important things. You're too busy doing things like giving your analysis of things I'm doing that you don't like, because that's more worthwhile. There are so many things I'm doing that you don't agree with that need to be pointed out before you can just go do your own thing. You keep obsessing over my flaws because you know all about them. You know more about me than I do. You keep on working hard at pointing out the difference between you and me, because you deserve to be where I am and I deserve to be where you are, and once everybody finally understands that I suck and you wouldn't suck if you were in my position, I will finally be replaced with you and you will finally get the respect and attention you deserve. I feel kind of bad for you, because you do so much work and get no credit and meanwhile I do no work and get a ton of credit and everybody likes me. If it wasn't so saddening that you do all the emotional labor in this relationship, I'd almost find it funny. What's even worse is that this inequality will only continue to grow and you'll get more upset and I'll get more things I don't deserve and nobody will ever care about you not liking me, and that's just not fair. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe you will eventually get the attention and adulation you deserve. Maybe you will eventually make things which aren't just impotent whines to nobody but yourself. Maybe you will actually create something for other people to enjoy or not enjoy. Maybe you will end up having your very own person like you are to me. Unfortunately, I won't ever notice it. I doubt it will happen though, it hasn't happened yet and it isn't happening now, so since the past predicts the future I feel very comfortable making that prediction. It doesn't really matter to me though, I won't notice either way so it doesn't really effect me. I don't even know who you are or what you're about or really anything about you. I'm like everybody else, you're a stranger to me. I don't want to know you, I didn't ask for your feedback, I don't care what you think, and I just feel bad for you, because you don't have anybody who loves or cares about you and you must be pretty miserable to be so angry and upset all the time. Depression You feel sad? You feel depressed? Don't want to get out of bed? Want to die? Those are all healthy normal emotions in this complicated world we live in. They're not warning signs or your body and brain telling you to stop doing what you're doing and start doing other things. No, it's simply part and parcel of living in the modern world. Luckily, with modern science you can stop feeling horrible without changing the things that are making you feel horrible! One of your options: take drugs that get designed in a little place that pumps out almost all of our psychological medicine. This place is a really special place filled with people who have contributed some of the powerful medical advancements in the last century and made the world what it is today. That place is Israel. Just take some pills and all of the sudden a lot of the negative symptoms that came from your life being your life are suddenly gone. Now you can go out on the town with friends and not be depressed. Now you can watch movies without wanting to slit your wrists and go into work without wanting to shoot the whole place up! Of course, sometimes there are complications that make things worse, but you can take additional medication to deal with any side effects of the initial medication. Another new option that will be gaining steam over the next few years and decades are little machines that go on (eventually even in) your head for hours at a time to make you feel happy, make you focus, make you more productive, and make you less anxious. That's right, you won't even need to take pills, you can just zap your brain until it stops telling you that it's unhappy. It's like taking all the warning lights off your car's dashboard, finally you can focus on driving from point A to point B back to point A back to point B without wasting time on repairs or even really thinking about what you're doing, ever. Lobotomies were bad of course, but taking pills and microwaving your brain? That is good for you. That makes you happy while preserving your role as a functioning member of society. And why wouldn't you want to be happy and content and a good worker all the time? That's just called being a responsible adult.
