Such a writing appeared on the website of photographer Miles Astray, after his work took the honorable third place in the 1839 Photography Awards competition, but after it was disqualified, and removed, from the official website of the organizer. The thing is, according to the terms of the competition, works created by AI participated. And Astray deliberately presented to the jury and to the public, a very real photo taken by him personally. The photographer believes that AI is changing the digital landscape too quickly. But at the same time, the works created by man do not lose their relevance.

Almost minor error 3 years ago, in the catalog of one of the auctions in Spain, a lot by allegedly Jose de Ribera, the Spanish artist of the XVII century, appeared. The canvas depicted the crucified Christ, vacillating Pontius Pilate and a Roman soldier, clutching a red robe. The stated price of the lot was $1,500. Yet, some experts, upon closer examination of the picture, thought something else. As a result, the painting was seized until the authorship was determined. And just this month it was found that the work was written by the great Caravaggio (Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio) and is estimated at a value of about $50,000,000! The restored painting will be on display at the Prado Museum until mid-October.

Coyote Exactly 40 years ago, German artist, teacher, performance artist and art theorist Joseph Heinrich Beuys flew to New York and spent three days alone with a coyote in one of the galleries 🤯 The most remarkable thing is that Beuys never set foot (!) on American soil. He was completely wrapped in felt, and transported to and from the airport by ambulance. As the artist explained:

I wanted to isolate myself, insulate myself, see nothing of America other than the coyote.

This performance was called I Like America and America Likes Me. It is considered one of the greatest works of this genre of art. And yes, by the end of the third day, Beuys was able to hug the beast 🤗

The Genius of the Northern Renaissance Albrecht Dürer is known to many as a great German engraver and painter. However, Dürer was also one of the first art theorists — he wrote several works addressed primarily to artists, and advocated their comprehensive development and education. He was also the first European artist to write an autobiography. Dürer is one of the founders of comparative anthropometry. In addition, the master was engaged in the development of the theory of fortification and cartography – geographical and stellar, leaving a significant contribution to these sciences. In 1500, at the age of 28, he was one of the first European artists to paint a full-face self-portrait, where he appears in the image of Christ. Albrecht Dürer was born on May 21st.

Spring It is believed that Sandro Botticelli was inspired to write this gorgeous, one of the most famous paintings, by an excerpt from a poem by Lucretius:

Mother of Aeneas’ sons, joy of men and gods, nourishing Venus, who beneath the stars that glide across the sky crams full of life ship-bearing seas and fruitful lands— through you are conceived all families of living things which rise up to gaze upon the splendour of sunlight, and when you come near, goddess, winds and sky clouds scurry off; for your sake, artful earth puts forth sweet flowers; for you, smooth seas smile, calm sky pours glittering light.

And we are inspired by both the great works of Lucretius, Botticelli and other Masters, as well as spring itself, which will pretty soon be changed by an equally wonderful and fruitful time of the year 😇

A week earlier, we mentioned that the Vatican has located its exhibition pavilion in the women's prison, a former monastery of the XXIII century,  on the island of Giudecca. We just didn’t mention that this prison is functioning (therefore, to visit the Vatican pavilion, you must register in advance). Here is its mention on the official police website: Casa di Reclusione Femminile Giudecca Can you imagine? It holds 80 prisoners, and the path to the Vatican Pavilion flows through the cells. The audience is accompanied by prison guards, it is forbidden to communicate with prisoners or to take pictures. An exception was made for only one guest - the Pope spoke with the women held there.

Our exposition at Personal Structures, Venice This is how visitors of the Personal Structures exhibition at the Venice Biennale see the Whisper of the Sea project by Concept2048. We were truly lucky with the choice of location, as we wanted to find something intimate, and this room seemed to be specially created to demonstrate our project 🔥

The Biennale. Premiere Time Something new happened at each of the 60 art biennales: new forms, new names, new participating countries, new trends, challenges, and issues raised. Tomorrow, April 28, something completely unprecedented is scheduled - the Biennale will be visited by the Pontiff, Pope Francis! As it became known, he will inspect the Vatican pavilion, located in the women's prison on the island of Giudecca. However, people say, other expositions may also be worthy of His Holiness's attention. Who knows, maybe the Personal Structures exhibition...🙂

When Forms Come Alive A month ago, I was lucky enough to visit an exhibition that still has a pleasant aftertaste in my mind. When Forms Come Alive takes place at the Hayward Gallery in London. I must say, right away, if there is an opportunity, be sure to visit! It will be open until May 6. There's still time! This exhibition covers more than 60 years of contemporary sculpture, and works by 21 artists. All inspired by movement, fluidity and growth. Once in the halls of the gallery, you involuntarily ask yourself: "What’s going on here?” and then you do not notice how you are plunged into it with your head, examining its details and, sometimes, your reflection in them. And you, echoing the exhibition, flow from one object to another, losing track of time, and getting lost in space. The shape is my favorite characteristic. And here it is served with special vivacity and unpredictability. There are no rigid geometric shapes, there is nothing bronze-marble-motionless-boring. The materials are striking in their surprise - wax, foil, paper, soap foam are just a few examples of what a sculpture can be made from. The shape changes, transforms, flutters and rustles, flows from one to another when the angle of view changes, and the viewer can follow this transformation by slowly moving through the halls. All sculptures are filled with life, they penetrate through and beyond the senses. I also adore the classics, but this sculpture in a new reading turned my head.
