*World Physical Therapy Day, September 8th: Bodies Rebuilt by Willpower, and a Rehabilitation System Facing Collapse*
*Physical therapy and rehabilitation services in Gaza have transformed from a mere complementary option into a crucial lifeline and the first line of defense against permanent disabilities among thousands of wounded and injured individuals.*
*The genocidal war on the Gaza Strip has left behind an unprecedented humanitarian and health catastrophe, leading to a staggering increase in the number of wounded, particularly double amputations and complex limb salvage procedures, reaching 5,000 amputation cases, while neurological and spinal cord injuries have reached 300 cases.*
*10,000 cases require intensive and long-term rehabilitation.*
* The direct targeting of healthcare facilities and the forced closure of most specialized rehabilitation centers have left thousands of patients and injured individuals facing the risk of critical complications due to the severe shortage of medical supplies, prosthetic devices, and artificial limbs, in addition to restrictions on travel for treatment abroad.
The Ministry of Health calls upon international organizations and UN agencies to urgently coordinate and intervene immediately to facilitate the entry of medical supplies and equipment for rehabilitation and prosthetic limbs.
We emphasize the necessity of opening the crossings to facilitate the travel of critical cases requiring advanced rehabilitation centers and the implantation of high-tech prosthetic limbs.
We extend our greetings and appreciation to the physical therapy and rehabilitation staff in the Gaza Strip; these dedicated individuals who have not ceased performing their noble mission, but rather have devised, amidst the rubble and tents, rudimentary methods to help the wounded regain independence and stand on their own feet again.
The insistence of physical therapists on working under bombardment, facing martyrdom, imprisonment, displacement, and in the most difficult circumstances, represents a shining example of humanitarianism and national duty. 👈🏻Supporting physiotherapy staff and providing them with the necessary resources is a moral and humanitarian imperative that cannot be postponed.
