🇷🇴🔫🇺🇦 Klaus Johannis would face opposition from the Romanian defense minister, Angel Tîlvăr, if he were to give away one of Romania's MIM-104 Patriot SAM system to Ukraine. However, if Johannis succeeds, that is because he is the supreme commander of the Romanian Army and can override the defense minister and any general. 🇩🇪💥🔫🇷🇴🇵🇱 A number of German MPs want NATO to shoot down Russian loitering drones and missiles that get too close to the Romanian and Polish borders! This proposal started with a some German military analysts and retired officers who proposed that Romanian and Polish units use their AA (anti-air) capabilities to shoot down Russian projectiles in Western Ukraine. However, few paid attention to it.. until two German Greens MPs proposed that NATO members neighbouring Ukraine place their AA systems on the border and use them to protect Ukraine because "Ukraine is struggling to fight Russian missile salvos". The suggestion was supported by a CDU member and an FDP member. Markus Faber, FDP, noted however that Europe's AA systems are in short supply of ammunition so their use would be extremely limited if they were to be involved at all. 🔗 https://www.faz.net/aktuell/politik/ausland/ukrainekrieg-was-waere-wenn-macron-soldaten-schickt-19710529.html

🟨🎙⚡️ After displaying Wallachian Voivode, Vlad III "the Impaler" at a political event in Târgoviște, AUR released a new promotional clip using the figure of Wallachian ruler, Michael the Brave who is remembered by Romanians as the first one to unite the three Romanian principalities, Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania into a single state for 9 months between 1600 and 1601. In the clip, the actor playing Michael the Brave calls "unity" his biggest desire and urges that the Romanian people, despite all of their fears and the daily challenges, stay strong and come together because he "has gathered his army" (the candidates put forward by AUR) to fight for the respect Romania deserves from the "foreigners". "From wherever you are, choose to be Romanian, come home in this dangerous time and lend us your arm so we can claim victory. We have the army, now go arm it" (metaphor for voting). Then comes, AUR president, George Simion who reiterates his party's line that, Romania is a rich a country that only its people can protect from malicious intent and that he has the perfect team for it and urges the people to "vote correctly" this year on June 9th. @Wallachian_Gazette

🇲🇩☮️🇲🇩 Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, reiterated her goal of reintegrating the Transnistrian region into Moldova, in a peaceful manner, before Moldova enters the EU. She says that this is her big "ideal" but that a lot depends on other factors. Sandu is aware of the situation Cyprus is in. Similarly, Cyprus is split in half with the northern half being occupied by the Turkish army who created a rump state. The southern half entered the EU and enjoyed its added benefits but the EU who should be working to reunite Cyprus has done little to sanction Turkey in this regard. In other words, if Moldova doesn't gain control over Transnistria before EU membership, it certainly won't be able to do so after. EU membership for Moldova will only solidify Transnistria's claim to statehood and will drive it apart further from the rest of Moldova. As the EU doesn't have a plan to reunite Cyprus, what are the chances that it will make one for Moldova? Also, the EU cannot accept countries with territorial disputes so, EU membership will irreversibly change Moldova's de-facto borders. 🔗 https://financialintelligence.ro/republica-moldova-isi-propune-sa-reintegreze-regiunea-separatista-transnistria-inainte-de-aderarea-la-ue-maia-sandu/

🇷🇺❌🇲🇩 Russian MFA spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, accused Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, of being a “Nazi”. “In regard to (Maia) Sandu, (what she is doing in Moldova) is comparable to the experiments of the Third Reich. Only then and there they made experiments on people’s nationality and language”. Then she described the eugenic policies of Nazi Germany after which she drew a parallel to Sandu and Moldova asserting that Sandu: “(…) is rewriting people, literally, without asking, following a clear pattern where some characteristics are desired and kept while the rest are left out and eliminated. In a split second, with a pen, the Moldovan language turned into Romanian. What is this other than the genocide of a nation? When I meet Moldovans, I ask them: “what language do you speak?” And they always say: “I speak Moldovan”. Historically speaking the Moldovan language is older than Romanian. Sandu is a promoter of the same nazi ideology and philosophical views paid for by the West. Therefore I think this is compatible with the policies of the Third Reich or the way the colonisers left Africa, drawing the borders with a ruler on a map, causing much suffering to the natives, meaning condemning them deliberately to future conflicts, with a high human cost. 🔗 https://www.hotnews.ro/stiri-international-27119080-atac-violent-moscovei-adresa-maiei-sandu-presedinta-republicii-moldova-acuzata-nazism-intr-interviu-mariei-zaharova-pentru-tass.htm

After all, by his own admission, “Romania would crumble without EU funds”. Fwd from @pezdicide 🇲🇩 It seems we were a bit too generous in our previous assessment of the Moldovan authorities. According to reports, the police have issued at least 150 citations for wearing the St. George's ribbon. Specifically, 60 citations were issued in the Gagauz autonomy and over 90 in Chisinau. However, the geography appears to be broader, as municipal councilor Vyacheslav Zhukov from the city of Balti also reported receiving a citation. Last year, he was able to appeal the fine in court. #Moldova @pezdicide no chemistry - just facts Original msg

🇷🇴⚔️🇹🇷🇹🇷 The Romanian Declaration of Independence 9-10th May 1877 Meanwhile others celebrate today the end of WW2 under the form of the liberal-progressive “Day of Europe” or the Russian-Sovietophilic “Victory Day”, real Romanians celebrate our country’s independence. Although the Declaration of Independence was read in front of the Romanian Parliament by the foreign minister, Mihail Kogălniceanu, on May 9th the actual war declaration against the Ottoman Empire came a day later on May 10th. This declaration put an end to 460 years of Ottoman domination over the Danubian Principalities. At the time, the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878 broke out a few months earlier and the United Principalities had already broke its vassal treaty by giving the Russian armies the right to freely travel to its territory and attack the Turkish forces defending Bulgaria. The Russians initially refused to employ the help of the Romanian Army even after declaring independence as they did not want to give territorial concessions to Romania but after failing to conquer the fortified town of Pleven/Plevna twice, the Russian commander in the area, Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich Romanov sent a telegram to Bucharest asked for military support from Romania. The Romanian prince, Karl Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen said he would agree under the condition that the Russian forces fall under his command, condition which was accepted. The Russians were now reinforced by an 80k strong Romanian Army. The new plan employed by Prince Karl/Carol was to lay siege to the town and cut the town’s supply lines as the Russians failed to to stop the Ottomans from receiving reinforcements and ammunition, and starve out the Turks. The plan worked, and in addition to several strategic assaults on Turkish defences like the Grivița redoubt aiming to put pressure and force a breakout, caused the Ottoman commander to give up and surrender to the Romanian command, which deeply angered the Russians. @Wallachian_Gazette

🇺🇸⚡️🇸🇪🇪🇪🇷🇴 — 🇷🇺 Russian channel Rybar on Telegram: "🇺🇸🇺🇸 Swift Response or how NATO is testing logistics on the eastern flank The day before yesterday we wrote that one of the stages of the NATO Swift Response exercise will take place in Moldova. But where does such attention come from to seemingly yet another exercise of the North Atlantic Alliance? It’s all about not only scale, but also application purposes. ▪️The exercise, in which airborne units play a central role, is taking place in several areas simultaneously. This time the honor was given to Romania, Estonia and the new bloc member Sweden. Participants in the exercises are being flown in planes, helicopters and armored vehicles from Germany, Hungary, Poland and North Macedonia. ▪️The scenario involves the deployment of airborne units to the destination area, the landing of allied forces and conducting real shooting at NATO training grounds in these three countries. ▪️The use of airborne assault in the current realities of military operations is not as effective as it was before (the special operation in the so-called Ukraine proved this), so the main meaning of these exercises looks somewhat different. 📌 In fact, the Alliance checks the readiness of its units to quickly enter the conflict zone by using not only the air component, but also the railway, sea, and road components, which is what we observe in the initial stages of Swift Response when transferring forces to Sweden, Estonia and Romania. To increase the logistics capabilities of the Alliance, active work is underway to build railway lines and highways in the Baltic states and Eastern Europe. And with the advent of Scandinavia in the NATO camp, emphasis was placed on practicing the transfer of forces and assets by sea. High resolution map" 🔗 Source

🇷🇴🗳️⚡️ The National Liberal Party has begun its presidential campaign with its president, Nicolae Ciucă being assigned for the job. 🟦 produced and released a couple campaign clips with Ciucă where he detailed what Romanians want to see in their future president with a clear conservative and somewhat nationalistic tone: The Romanians would choose someone for president that meets this criteria: he loves his country, he worked for the people and never forgot what his role was while in that position. (…) the first thing you have to do in the morning is thank God that you have woken up because you can never know when you will never wake up again (…) I have entered politics because I believe we can do politics differently (…) I have chosen the military when I was 14. I therefore believe this is my mission: to work with and work for the people. The Army and the Church are part of our nation’s fibres and we must not lose faith in them. What I believe that we must leave for inheritance to the future generations is a sense of normality. PNL is a national party and for us, nothing else matters than identity, traditions, our faith in God and the family. We, PNL, must go out and talk to the people and remove all doubts they might have raised against us”. As critics have pointed out, PNL has left out all of the pro-EU messaging, all of the liberal messaging, exchanging it for a conservative and nationalist rhetoric copying the speech espoused by AUR. For those unaware, in a now deleted interview from 2018 with Radio România Actualități Ciucă denied ever going into politics and 3 years later he became defense minister on behalf of PNL, later elected as the party’s president and then prime-minister now president of the senate. He went to great lengths to hide that particular interview because it exposed him for what he is: a hollow man, that doesn’t believe in what he says, acting in the interests of his superiors. Just like he lied back then, what makes one think he isn’t lying today? It is true: nationalist messaging wins more votes in Romania than liberal-progressive EU messaging and PNL is simply playing the game trying to fool people disgusted, disappointed or disillusioned with AUR into believing they are what they claim to be. 🔗 https://ziaristii.com/valorile-liberale-seful-pnl-generalul-ciuca-promoveaza-armata-biserica-familia-si-traditiile-ca-mesaje-cheie-in-campania-pentru-prezidentiale-nimic-despre-initiativa-privata-l/

🇷🇴✈️⚡️ Romania is going to build a new airport to accommodate the inhabitants of the cities of Galați and Brăila. The cities of Galați and Brăila are only 21 km apart and represent Romania’s two major ports on the Danube and shipyards behind Constanța on the Black Sea. They have a combined population of over 400k people and are not currently served by any airport. This new infrastructure project will help make travel easier to both cities as, sadly, both Brăila and Galați but also neighbouring cities like Focșani, Bârlad, Tecuci as well as the southern region of Moldova meaning the Cahul district and Gagauzia. The airport will be built on a 250 ha plot of land close to the villages of Braniștea, Slobozia Conachi and Tudor Vladimirescu. The runway will be 3.5 km long, it will have a passenger and cargo terminal with 9 gates in the passenger terminal. The airport will be environmentally friendly with plenty of solar panels, vehicle charging stations, a video surveillance system with integrated AI, intelligent lighting systems and the best luggage scanners. So far the Galați County Council has convinced ROMATSA to map out the airspace which it will have to lease to the airport’s administration. The matter of who will fund the construction has not been settled yet. 🔗 https://www.zf.ro/eveniment/se-construieste-un-nou-aeroport-international-in-romania-proiectul-a-22359084

🇷🇴🛂🛠 Chart showing the amount of foreign (non-EU) workers employed in Romania. There are 9 times more foreign workers in 2023 than were in 2014. However, a number of human resources firms are worried that once Romania enters the Schengen Area and becomes an entry point into the EU, as much as half of the 127k foreign workers would leave the country in the weeks following the opening of the border with Hungary and move to countries like Germany, the Benelux for the higher salaries. This predicted exodus would negatively impact the Romanian economy who already relies heavily on unqualified workers from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Indochina in the construction and hospitality sector as well as food delivery services. @Wallachian_Gazette

🇲🇩⚖️⚡️ Maia Sandu's justice delivers! Her former boss, Vlad Filat, who led Moldova as premier between 2009 and 2013, was acquitted of all wrongdoing in a money-laundering case in relation with the 2014 Moldovan bank fraud scandal, the judge deciding that "the actions committed by Filat do not constitute money laundering". The prosecution will appeal the decision. They asked for 7 years of prison and a 12.8 million Moldovan Leu fine for the former prime-minister and pro-Western politician. Filat had been convicted in 2016 of bribery and abuse of power. He was denounced by Ilan Shor who said he bribed Filat between 2012 and 2013 to ignore what was going on in the Moldovan banking system, Filat reportedly earning 250 million USD in the process. He got 9 years of prison but was released early in 2019, with Filat virtually spending 1 year in pre-trial detention (2015-2016) and from 2016 to 2019, 3 years of his actual sentence. Filat is one of the few people involved in the 2014 Moldovan bank fraud scandal that was actually imprisoned by the Moldovan justice system, others like Ilan Shor, Veaceslav Platon and Vlad Plahotniuc fleeing the country. The ECHR condemned Moldova last year (2023) and ordered the country to pay 7.5k EURs in damages to Vlad Filat for denying his right to a fair trial. In a statement to the press, Filat said that this acquittal is fair and that this trial was of a "political nature" as he already finished serving his sentence in the previous trial which convicted him of a number of financial crimes related to the events between 2012 and 2014 which this case also seeks to prosecute. 🔗 https://www.zdg.md/stiri/stiri-justitie/ultima-ora-vlad-filat-a-fost-achitat-in-dosarul-privind-spalarea-de-bani/

Over a million Romanians from Romania and the Moldovan SSR gathered at various points on the Pruth river (the border) crossing to the other side, with some families reuniting for the first time in 46 years since the loss of Bessarabia in 1944.
