| 3 | 5 frameworks on how to answer interview questions.
—
➤ STAR is not dead or overused
➤ Applying one framework is more important than worrying about which is the best one
➤ Framework means nothing if you don’t do 3 things (see below)
—
The frameworks are:
1. STAR Method: Situation, Task, Action, Result. It helps in organizing responses by outlining the situation, the tasks involved, actions taken, and the results achieved in a particular scenario.
2. CAR Method: Context, Action, Result. Similar to STAR, it focuses on the context or situation, the action taken, and the resulting outcome. Can become CARL with L as learning.
3. SOAR Method: Situation, Obstacles, Actions, Results. It's an alternative to STAR, emphasizing the challenges or obstacles faced during the situation in addition to actions and results. Can become SOARR with R being reflection. SOARR is a framework created by Richa Bansal, MBA.
4. SAO Method: Situation, Action, Outcome. A simplified version of the STAR method, focusing on the situation, the action you took, and the resulting outcome.
5. PARADE Method: Problem, Action, Result, Analysis, Decision, Experience. This framework dives deeper by adding analysis and decision-making aspects to the typical STAR method.

| 9 | Update on Testing in Iran
Following the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC)’s suspension of General License G, ETS has paused administration of the TOEFL and GRE tests within Iran effective immediately. This action is required to comply with U.S. sanctions law. All affected test appointments within Iran will be cancelled, and ETS will contact test takers directly regarding applicable refunds and next steps.
This restriction applies to testing within Iran. Iranian nationals may take the TOEFL or GRE test at available testing locations outside Iran, subject to applicable registration requirements and appointment availability in the selected location.
We recognize the disruption and uncertainty this regulatory change creates for learners pursuing educational opportunities. ETS remains committed to supporting access to education for test takers around the world and is actively working to understand the scope and duration of this change and pursue any available paths to resume testing services in Iran. At this time, there is no confirmed timeline for when testing in Iran may resume. | 509 |
| 10 | How we saved 100 terabytes of memory by optimizing 1.1.1.1’s DNS cache
https://blog.cloudflare.com/dns-cache-memory-optimization-1111/
Big Pineapple, the platform behind 1.1.1.1, Gateway DNS, DNS Firewall, AS112, and several other Cloudflare DNS services, stores over 250 billion DNS cache entries at any given time. At that scale, wasting a single byte per entry costs more than 250 gigabytes of memory across our fleet.
Five successive changes to how cache entries are stored in memory cut the per-entry footprint by over 50%. Across our fleet, these changes freed up roughly 100 terabytes of memory, equivalent to the amount of RAM in 130 of our Gen 13 servers. The cache also got faster. Insert throughput rose 43% and lookup latency dropped 19%, as fewer allocations and better memory locality meant we did not trade speed for space.

| 15 | Internal Developer Platform
https://internaldeveloperplatform.org
Everything the WWW has around Internal Developer Platforms in one curated space. It helps you understand the why, how, what and who.
What is an Internal Developer Platform (IDP)?
An Internal Developer Platform (IDP) is built by a platform team to build golden paths and enable developer self-service. An IDP consists of many different techs and tools, glued together in a way that lowers cognitive load on developers without abstracting away context and underlying technologies. Following best practices, platform teams treat their platform as a product and build it based on user research, maintaining and continuously improving it.
TLDR; An Internal Developer Platform (IDP) is built and provided as a product by the platform team to application developers and the rest of the engineering organization. An IDP glues together the tech and tools of an enterprise into golden paths that lower cognitive load and enable developer self-service. The platform team ships the IDP following product management best practices, iterating on it based on user research and tight feedback loops with users and other key stakeholders. Stakeholders include application developers, infrastructure and operations teams, security teams, architects and CCOEs, and executives, among others. This means that successful platform engineering teams develop dedicated functions within themselves to ensure the perspectives of different stakeholder groups are represented. For example, infrastructure platform engineering aims to ensure that the IDP provides tangible benefits to infrastructure and operations teams.
InternalDeveloperPlatform.org is the central hub for our global community of engineers and platform nerds. It provides a space for developers to discuss best practices and war stories around their Internal Developer Platforms and tooling setups. Join our Platform Engineering slack channel to meet other platform engineers, find jobs in the industry and attend our community events.
How Internal Developer Platforms are built by Platform teams
Internal Developer Platforms are built by platform engineering teams with their end user in mind, the application developers. Developers are therefore the internal customers of platform teams. However, many other stakeholders within the engineering organization need to be involved in the development and rollout of an IDP to ensure adoption. These include infrastructure and operations (I&O) teams, architects, security teams, and executives.
The IDP is designed and shipped in sync with the overall business goals and the objectives of the different stakeholder groups. Platform teams combine a set of open-source and commercial tools following best-practice architectural blueprints and reference architectures. Successful platform engineering initiatives start small, following a Minimum Viable Platform (MVP) approach, and iterate quickly to continuously prove value to all key stakeholders.
Enterprise-grade Internal Developer Platforms have a set of baseline configurations that get enforced across all workflows and development teams, driving standardization and automation by design. This allows engineering organizations to decrease time to market while ensuring security and compliance best practices are followed everywhere, i.e. they can move faster without breaking things.
How Internal Developer Platforms are used by application developers:
Internal Developer Platforms meet application developers where they are at. This is crucial to ensure adoption. Successful platform engineering initiatives provide developers with interface choice (code-based e.g. OSS workload specification Score, UI based e.g. a portal, CLI, API, etc.), striking the right balance between shielding them from complexity while still providing them with the context they need to do their job. Through these interfaces, developers can request resources, spin up fully provisioned environments, roll back, deploy, and trigger deployment automations, all without the need for support from their operations colleagues.

| 18 | Tailcat: Tailscale without Tailscale, by Tailscale
https://tailscale.com/blog/tailcat
Today we’re releasing tailcat, a remix of pieces of Tailscale that gives you a way to use the open-source Tailscale data plane (WireGuard® + NAT traversal + DERP) without the Tailscale control plane, written by the people who made Tailscale. It’s Tailscale without Tailscale, by Tailscale.
Specifically, tailcat is both an open-source Go package and a CLI tool using that package. It lets you run a server-side listener and a client to connect to that server, moving bidirectional bytes back and forth.
That is, it’s like netcat but flowing over Tailscale’s magicsock (WireGuard encryption + NAT traversal + DERP rendezvous/fallback relay). | 693 |

| 20 | https://www.toeflresources.com/blog/toefl-tests-and-iran-sanctions/
My friends in Iran are worried that they may soon lose the ability to take the TOEFL and GRE tests. This is because the US Department of State has suspended General License D, which allowed for certain educational services to be carried out in Iran, notwithstanding ongoing sanctions.
This license specifically mentioned permission “to administer professional certificate examinations and university entrance examinations, including, but not limited to, multiple choice standardized tests, and to provide those services that are necessary or required for admission to U.S. academic institutions, to individuals who are located in Iran or located outside Iran but who are ordinarily resident in Iran.”
Activities permitted under General License D must be wound down by September 8.
The suspension is part of a package of new sanctions on Iran. | 907 |
