This funky shroom grows throughout Europe from August until November
The way this one grows is oddly specific: it is a parasitic fungus that infects the pupae of insects. The orange fruiting body grows out of the dead insect carcass and emerges above ground. It's often seen growing out of caterpillar chrysalis, hence the name.
Recorded as early as 620 AD, it was traditionally used as a lung and kidney tonic, making it useful for respiratory ailments and physical exhaustion.
Modern science actually backs up these claims! Studies have shown that it can have an anti-fatigue effect, and enhance respiratory function.
