Side control escapes.
One of those mornings where I realized halfway through the 4 escapes being taught - “oh I remember this from like a year ago…and I haven’t been doing any of these!”
Why not?
We get inundated with information, especially at white and blue belt.
You can’t possibly hold on and use every move you learn, so you rely on what you know best and has worked before.
You can see how this slows your development.
This is why it’s so important to use your rolls to work on these new techniques when they’re fresh in your mind.
Re-define what “winning” a roll is.
Amazing how much more relaxed and educational sparring can be when you’re simply trying to utilize the technique you’ve been taught, instead of muscle-fucking your way to the one submission you already know.
If I’d been doing that since last year - maybe these escapes would already be part of my repertoire - instead of something I’m starting to re-learn.
