Summary:
Tim and Diana both faced difficulties arranging their farm work experience. Timβs farm was far away and he only got a two-week placement instead of a month, while Diana struggled to find the right farm but was lucky to stay on the farm so she didnβt have to travel.
On the farms, they worked with different animals. Tim helped deliver a lamb with the farmerβs help, saw a vet treat a lambβs broken leg, and looked after Cheviot sheep, known for their hardwearing wool, as well as chickens that were given supplements. Diana worked with Suffolk sheep, bred mainly for meat, and dairy cows, though she once made a mistake by mixing milk from cows treated with antibiotics with the milk for humans.
Both students learned that while some simple procedures could be done by farmers, vets are still necessary. They also saw that supplements can help animals but are often overpriced, so farmers use them only when needed.
