Russia is testing NATO’s ability to avoid open warfare, The Wall Street Journal reports.
Russia’s increasingly brazen attacks in Europe are creating a dilemma for the continent’s leaders: are they prepared to respond to Moscow with more than sanctions and diplomatic measures?
European NATO members have so far shown no desire to use the Alliance for anything beyond protecting their borders and providing military aid to Ukraine. However, some European officials and experts say the response remains too timid to deter the Kremlin’s provocations.
“Putin needs to be pressured where it hurts most. With every hybrid attack, Germany should increase aid to Ukraine,” said Niko Lange, a former chief of staff at Germany’s Defense Ministry.
Lange said the entire Russian “shadow fleet” should be blocked, Russian diplomats should be barred from freely traveling between EU countries, and pressure should be increased on countries that help Moscow circumvent EU sanctions.

Costa: EU Will Increase Pressure On Russia Until It Stops The Killing
The European Union will increase pressure on Russia until it stops the killing and demonstrates genuine commitment to peace.
"Europe's security also depends on enlargement. Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans belong to our Union: each country moves forward based on its own merits, and each is treated equally. This is the most important geopolitical investment the European Union can and must make," Costa noted.
He noted that while candidate countries must implement necessary reforms and adhere to previous commitments, "at the same time it's important that we too play our part, by engaging with them in constructive dialogue and recognizing the progress achieved."

He emphasized that if Putin takes part in this year's G20 summit in the US, he will demand that Putin end the war in Ukraine.
"My message will be simple: get out of Ukraine. Give all of Ukraine back to Ukraine and end this war, which is killing more than 30,000 of your own citizens every month," the Canadian prime minister stated.

EU Wants To Restrict Visa Regime For Russians And Expand Sanctions Against Russian Tankers — Bloomberg
The European Union may restrict travel by Russian citizens and expand sanctions against tankers carrying Russian oil, in response to the attempted sabotage at a German airport.
In the coming weeks, EU member state representatives will hold meetings to discuss possible proposals. These include restricting tourist visas for Russians, tightening restrictions on the movement of Russian diplomats, and introducing additional sanctions against "shadow fleet" vessels.
It is noted that these could be the first steps in the EU's response to Russia's attempted sabotage at Leipzig airport, which is used to transfer military equipment to Ukraine.
Germany has already announced the closure of the Russian consulate in Bonn, a key Russian cultural center in Berlin, as well as tighter border controls for Russian citizens. EU countries are also considering strengthening Ukraine's air defense.

⚡️ Overnight, For The First Time In A Long While, Strikes Hit Airports — "Boryspil" And "Zhuliany" — Zelenskyy
🔹 Overnight, in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region, the Russians struck a civilian enterprise. Four people were killed, and five more were injured.
🔹 Ordinary residential buildings were damaged in many regions — in Kherson, Boryspil, and Kharkiv region. In Sumy and Mykolaiv, drones struck shopping centers.
🔹 There were also demonstrative Russian strikes overnight on our airports — in Kyiv and Boryspil. Deliberately targeted ones, for the first time in a long while.
🔹 Evidently, these Russian strikes on airports are a reaction to discussions and preparations regarding the possibility for the American side to use a plane to arrive in Ukraine and land at "Kyiv" or "Boryspil" airport.
🔹 The Russian-Iranian Shaheds are a response to American diplomacy.
🔹 We've taken note of this Russian move, and next week we will adjust our operation accordingly with respect to Russian airspace, which has become dangerous due to the presence of drones and missiles in the sky.
🔹 There are no threats to diplomacy from our side, and there won't be. Ukraine is interested in bringing peace closer. Russia will be held accountable for what it does.
