You can discuss fairness in competition: Doping damages the integrity of sport. ☞ divisive Meaning: Causing strong disagreement or arguments among people. Example: The government's new education policy has proved highly divisive. IELTS Tip: A high-level adjective for topics like Politics, Education, Technology, and Social Issues. You can also say a divisive issue/debate/topic. ☞ it's fair to say... Meaning: Used to introduce an opinion that is balanced, reasonable, or generally true. Example: It's fair to say that social media has changed the way people communicate. IELTS Tip: Excellent for Task 2 essays and Speaking Part 3 because it makes your opinion sound balanced and academic. ☞ cross the line Meaning: To behave in a way that is unacceptable or goes beyond acceptable limits. Example: Criticism is acceptable, but insulting someone crosses the line. IELTS Tip: A natural idiom for Speaking. It works well when discussing acceptable behaviour, freedom of speech, or online communication. ☞ set a good/bad example Meaning: To behave in a way that encourages others to behave well or badly. Example: Parents should set a good example by reading regularly at home. IELTS Tip: Very useful in essays about children, education, parenting, and leadership. You can also say role models should set a good example for young people. ☞ normalise Meaning: To make something seem normal or acceptable when it was not before. Example: Some people worry that violent video games may normalise aggressive behaviour. IELTS Tip: An advanced verb for discussing social change, technology, media, and culture.
