✂️ Mow first — you’ll see exactly where the bare bits are (scarify and aerate too if your lawn’s strong enough; if it’s still recovering from the drought, just aerate)
🌿 Dig out perennial weeds now and fill the holes left behind
💧 Moisten the soil and apply a fertiliser — but check it contains no weed or moss killer, or your seed won’t germinate
🌾 Choose seed to suit your conditions, then spread it. A seed spreader earns its keep on a big area
👀 A light covering is enough — you should still see soil between the seed
🪣 Cover lightly with top dressing to hold moisture in and keep the birds off
🚿 Water every day until it’s established
That last one isn’t optional — it’s the whole job. Let it dry out once it’s germinated and you’ll be starting again 🌿

⚠️You can of course wear more safety equipment. This is the minimum I’m comfortable with.
🪖The next safety items, in priority order would be a helmet with face protection, chaps (leg protection trousers) and safety-toe boots. If I was doing a lot of work where fatigue and complacency become an issue I would definitely get them.
🐥The other risk area is when you’re not experienced with a chainsaw so if you’re starting out definitely consider wearing everything.
🧤I often wear gloves, mainly when I use my hands off the saw a lot.

Not only does this provide shade for that hot & heavy afternoon sun & heat here in AZ; but I am also able to soak it down multiple times a day so the breeze helps cool the inside of the run and coop, too.
When I walk into the coop/run it is immediately cooler than without the set up. My girls also get a pan of water to stand in & fresh veggies, such as lettuce & cucumbers & greens, to help keep them hydrated.
