While RAS relies on water treatment and recirculation systems to maintain optimal growing conditions, Biofloc technology harnesses beneficial microorganisms to improve water quality and support fish growth. Together, these technologies are expanding the scope of aquaculture by enabling fish farming in diverse agro-climatic conditions and locations where traditional aquaculture may not be feasible. #environment27 A new report by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) suggests the world will likely “overshoot”, or temporarily breach, the 1.5°C target of warming above preindustrial temperatures within the next few years. The UNEP report titled “Limiting Overshoot” says crossing the 1.5°C threshold is “unavoidable”, with global temperatures expected to peak at about 1.8°C above pre-industrial levels even under an “optimistic scenario”. Policy focus shifts to minimising overshoot magnitude/duration, rapid GHG and methane reductions, net-zero followed by net-negative CO₂, carbon-dioxide removal (CDR), and adaptation. One proposed explanation is a “black-hole star” (BH*), where a black hole is embedded within a dense gas cocoon. Their Balmer break (~364.6 nm), redshifted into infrared wavelengths, helps constrain their nature and redshift, offering clues to early black-hole growth. How did supermassive black holes become so massive so soon after the Big Bang? LRDs may provide clues to the seed-black-hole problem.
