Background
Two skulls were discovered in 1989 and 1990 in china’s Hubei province and it was designated as,
These two skulls were dated to be between 8,00,000 years to 1 million years before.
And these two skulls were named,
EV9001
EV9002
And were designated as Yunxian 1 and Yunxian 2 = and concluded as Homo erectus
Recent discovery
Yunxian 3 fossil a little away from the earlier fossil find and this fossil is closer to Homo sapiens and is believed to be of a species termed by anthropologists as Homo long!
Analysis
This creates a confusion in the tree of evolution because it was believed that,
Homo erectus->Homo hiedelberhensis-> Neanderthals diverged around 6,00,000 years and Homo sapiens diverged around 3 lakh years
Meaning it was thought that Homo sapiens or the species associated evolved around 6,00,000 years and precisely around 3,00,000 years because of a skull found in Africa.
But now this fossil find in China which is Yunxian 3 skull dates at least 5,00,000 years before and this pushes the evolution of Homo sapiens before the 3,00,000 years.
Conclusion
Homo sapiens or Homo related species evolved even before as previously thought and may have co existed with,
Neanderthals
Denisovans
Homo longi
Homo erectus
And this co-existence could have been longer than previously thought and strong evidences of interbreeding would have also have taken place!
