☘️ On March 17 461 A.D. Saint Patrick, missionary to Ireland, dies (traditional date).
Born in Great Britain to a Christian family of Roman citizenship, Patrick was captured and enslaved at age 16 by Irish raiders. For the next six years, he worked as a herder in Ireland. Following the counsel of a voice he heard in a dream, he escaped and found passage on a ship back to Britain, and was reunited with his family.
He later had another dream urging him to return to Ireland with the gospel. After studying for the priesthood, he was ordained and returned to Ireland. After years of preaching, traveling and working tirelessly, Patrick died in 461 in Saul, where he had built his first church.
