Unlike Russian crude oil exports, which in 2023 exceeded the volumes of 2021, Russia’s natural gas exports have dwindled by an estimated 42 percent since 2021, the year before the country invaded Ukraine.
How will the global energy landscape change in the coming years? Learn from the discussion featuring Mehmet Ogutcu, Chairman, Global Resources Partners, UK, and the London Energy Club/The Bosphorus Energy Club, non-executive board member in several international companies. Former diplomat, IEA and OECD senior staff, BG Group, Invensys, Genel Energy, Şişecam senior executive. The world is still undergoing a fundamental energy transformation and technological revolution, with additional factors like climate change, green & transparent financing, and geopolitical tensions. The need for urgent energy transition is challenged by energy security concerns, which add even more uncertainty to the geopolitical landscape, especially in the aftermath of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, trade diversion, and #COP28. By 2030, the energy world will look very different. Global efforts to stay within the 1.5-degree scenario will reshape not only the way we use energy, but also the global energy flows, technological innovation, and the weight of countries in international trade and finance. Keeping a watchful eye on these rapidly changing global dynamics will be critical for both companies and governments as they chart their future energy strategies and actions. Guest Speaker: Mehmet Öğütçü Mehmet currently chairs the Global Resources Partnership, a strategic investment advisory group engaged in worldwide natural resources and energy assets, headquartered in London. He later served as the head of the international investment and outreach at the OECD Secretariat.
