Meta's latest large language model, Llama 3, integrated with Groq, has surpassed OpenAI's GPT-4 in terms of speed. In a recent comparison, Llama 3 running on Groq outperformed GPT-4 in a simple task of counting from 1 to 500. This demonstration highlights Llama 3's superior speed and computational efficiency. Llama 3 is a powerful large language model (LLM) with capabilities in text generation and code creation. One of the key advantages of Llama 3 is its increased speed and cost-efficiency. The integration with Groq further enhances Llama 3's capabilities, allowing it to provide faster responses compared to other language models. Video by futuristflower/X

Jensen Huang, CEO of Nvidia, personally delivered the first DGX H200 GPU to OpenAI. The DGX GH200 offers significant improvements over its predecessor, the H100, with 1.8 times the memory capacity and 1.4 times the bandwidth. These enhancements enable faster information processing and handling of massive datasets. This new GPU is expected to significantly accelerate OpenAI's work in generative AI, especially in training new and more sophisticated models. Credits: Greg Brockman/X

Meta has rolled out a multimodal AI update for its Ray-Ban smart glasses in the US and Canada, allowing users to interact with Meta AI. With Meta AI, users can engage their smart glasses through voice commands by simply saying "Hey Meta" and asking about what they are seeing. The AI assistant can then leverage the built-in camera to analyze the visual scene and provide smart, contextual information or suggestions. Meta is also adding the ability to share your view on a video call via WhatsApp and Messenger, completely hands-free.

Over the past year, many high school and college students have been using AI tools like ChatGPT to help them write their assignments. According to data from Turnitin, a company that detects plagiarism, found that over 22 million student papers submitted in the past year may have used AI assistance. Turnitin claims to have reviewed more than 200 million papers using its AI detection tool. Approximately 11% of papers may have up to 20% AI-generated content, while 3% of papers contain at least 80% AI-generated writing. However, there are concerns about the reliability of these AI detection tools. A study last year found that seven such tools had a 61% false positive rate, while Turnitin claims that their tool has a much lower false positive rate of around 1%. Due to these concerns, some universities like Vanderbilt, Purdue, Northwestern, and Montclair have either warned against or advised educators to avoid using these AI detection tools entirely.

Future AI models could 'steamroll' startups that fail to evolve alongside the accelerated pace of AI development. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, in a recent interview, warned that startups building products on current AI models risk becoming obsolete when more powerful models arrive. He advises startups to avoid heavily specializing in current models, as future iterations are likely to offer significantly improved capabilities.

META CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has expressed concerns about the dominance of major tech companies like Apple and Google in controlling what developers can build within the mobile ecosystem. He pointed out how this control, both economically and qualitatively, can limit innovation and restrict the launch of new features. Zuckerberg cited examples where Apple has denied certain features or apps from being launched on their platform. He doesn't want AI to end up like mobile apps, where gatekeepers like Apple and Google tell you what you're allowed to build. Zuckerberg fears that such control could hinder the open development and progress of AI technology.
