We're here to help clarify some things for you 🙂 What's Actually Happening: Google has announced a new "Developer Verification" program from September 2026 that requires all app developers to register with Google, pay fees, and submit identification before their apps can be installed on Android devices - even outside the Play Store. How This Affects You: For users who use a de-googled device, this doesn't affect you! If you use regular Android devices like Samsung or Google, then apps you have installed on your phone prior to September 2026 will not update unless the app developer has registered with Google. Why de-googled phones are protected: Having a de-googled phone is your advantage in this situation. Our phones already operate outside of Google's control system, so these changes won't affect your ability to update or use apps. We highly recommend downloading primarily from the F-Droid app store. This app store operates independently from Google's ecosystem. What You Can Do: For de-googled device users: Continue to use your apps as normal. Support alternative apps stores like F-Droid and start the transition if you heavily rely on the Aurora Store for your apps. Your access to these apps may gradually change over time. For apps that are not on F-Droid, check the app developers' website for direct downloads. If you're on social media, spread the word! For regular Android users: From September, it's going to become harder to access and use privacy, respecting open source apps. Speak to us to make the change to a de-googled device.
