"When should you give up?" is probably the hardest question to answer. Nobody can answer it right, not even you. It is that one case where your instincts dominate instead of logic. Logic may support giving up, but instincts make you persist for years, often decades.
If you win the instincts feel vindicated. If you fail, logic says "I told you so" and when you persist despite the failure, it is the most authentic form of self-expression. That is your true self which you cannot comprehend or completely explain.
Lean into it and you might uncover secrets of nature and of consciousness. Or you might discover you threw your life for nothing. Like I said, "When should you give up?" is hardest question to answer.

Anyone who displays the urgency to prevent time from doing its work is a red flag. The unworthy know this and thus rush to secure the outcomes in their favor. These are time variant and wouldn't blink an eye to discard even the favorable outcomes which they obtained via dubious means.
Those with character do not rush as they implicitly understand the function of time and do not fear erosion of their character with time. They are indeed timeless, time invariant and understand loyalty which is also time invariant.

| 11 | Detachment and peace
There comes a time in a man's life where material possessions, success in a certain endeavor just don't matter. They work to maintain the material possession or sustain the success, but their internal compass has drifted long ago. They've reached the state of detachment.
These men have understood something fundamental about detachment which most of us cannot yet comprehend. The detachment is not a consequence of a momentary decision. It is a produce of years of efforts and experiences. It is a detachment that is earned and thus comes hard. I have always wondered what makes the detachment so difficult.
An obvious answer would be attachment to the desires, and to material possessions - which is true but not in entirety. Resorting to such explanations, a more fundamental attachment was overlooked - attachment to efforts. It is the attachment to the efforts that makes detachment hard.
We suffer from two types of attachment. Attachment to outcomes and the attachment to efforts. Attachment to outcomes and the need for its detachment have received ample attention with phrases such as "Trust the process, don't focus on outcome". But attachment to the process itself appears to be overlooked.
Detachment is the process of letting go, not only of outcomes but of the process. Letting go of efforts that it took to achieve the outcome. If you think attachment to efforts is not real, make a suggestion to a gym dude that his physique isn't natural and observe. If you think attachment to efforts is not real, notice how we resort to same patterns of actions despite the failure.
Each one of us has that attachment which can be inflamed when our credits are stolen, our efforts misused or attributed to luck, or when our efforts don't produce intended results.
Peace then is hindered by this attachment to efforts and only reclaimed when we are willing to let go of efforts. Imagine the ability to let go of efforts and restart with ease. To restart is to retain the ability to achieve peace recursively. A lot of us are scared of this recursion. Thus stuck attached to the efforts, dreaming of detachment. | 118 |
| 12 | When you come across someone mocking at others achievements, no matter how minute, know that you are dealing with a low value person. There is nothing positive to learn from such a person. A person with value would resort to disagreement with reasoning than indulge in mocking. | 157 |

| 16 | Suffering teaches you to distinguish between joy and pleasures of mundane life. Without suffering joy and pleasures are often conflated. Suffering thus offers a portal to elevate oneself to a higher state of joy as opposed to lowly state of pleasure.
Talking about joy without having suffered feels disingenuous. Suffering everyday without ever finding joy feels stupid. Modern world is stuck between this insincerity and stupidity.
It is common to find people who aren't joyful and suffer everyday. It is also common to find people who mask the emptiness with pleasures and pretend to be joyful.
A person who is truly joyful and hasn't suffered is indeed rare. Enlightened are the few and will always remain few as a mark of respect to the difficulty of this journey from pleasure to suffering to joy. | 162 |
| 17 | How do you know you will succeed in your endeavor?
You are willing to lose in the chosen endeavor, yet choose to do it anyway, betting against a possible failure. Looking for endeavors with guaranteed success is the path to guaranteed failure.
