Significance of 34 New NACs & 5 Municipalities Approved By CM @Naveen_Odisha Today After 5T Chairman Kartik Pandian's Feedback From Dist Visits (1)Odisha now has around 115 Urban local government bodies in 30 districts of Odisha. 5 Municipal Corporations 47 Municipalities 63 NACs With 34 new NACs & 5 more municipalities in 20 districts, total ULBs now will increase to 154 (2)Notified Area Councils (NACs) are basically transitional areas i.e. the area in transition from rural to urban areas with a population of around 50,000 & above (2) Municipalities are urban areas with population of around 1 lakh & above and corporations are for bigger urban areas (3) 18 functions have been devolved upon the ULBs by the State Government which include Urban planning Land use regulation Road construction and maintenance Clean drinking water Solid waste management Sewage and sanitation services Public health Local taxation (4)The ULBs also receive grants from the Finance Commission (5) The NACs & Municipalities will govern their own affairs by elected bodies with their own sources of revenue.
