Martin Odegaard's passing playbook: Carousels, scoops, chips, clips and more

Arsenal were in a very different place when Martin Odegaard arrived on loan from Real Madrid in January 2021. Mikel Arteta’s side were ninth in the Premier League and had been devoid of midfield creativity for most of the season. Emile Smith Rowe was the catalyst for change with his Boxing Day performance against Chelsea, but it is Odegaard who has developed into their chief playmaker in the three and a half years since. Leah Williamson has committed her future to Arsenal by signing a new contract with the Women’s Super League side. While Arsenal have not provided a length on Williamson’s new deal, Mail Sport understands the contract extension is longer than one year. Williamson, who joined Arsenal at the age of eight, has made 232 appearances for the club, winning six trophies in the process. ‘Everyone knows what Arsenal means to me, but I think every time I sign a new contract, I feel that love ignite all over again,’ Williamson said. ‘I’m very happy to be staying – this is a place where I can still continue to grow, develop and be challenged. As a group, we’re all very focused on bringing more silverware to this club and I can’t wait to get started again when the new season comes around.’ @Mailsport

Arsenal squad audit: Who stays and who goes? Assessing the future of every player

The season may be over, but the evolution of Arsenal’s squad continues. The target is clear: to assemble a group capable of wresting the Premier League title away from Manchester City. Arsenal are close, so their squad is unlikely to undergo a dramatic overhaul. According to research group CIES Football Observatory, they have the most stable squad in world football. Almost 800 clubs from 59 leagues were organised into a continuity index by considering their age structure, contract policy and overall stability.…

The four stages of Arsenal's tactical evolution this season

For Arsenal to challenge Manchester City for the title this season, evolution was necessary. Mikel Arteta’s side blew teams away in the first half of the previous campaign with a fluidity in attack that took them into an unexpected position. But after they faded over the final weeks, their manager knew what they had built would have to not only be maintained, but also developed. Advertisement Many aspects of Arsenal’s play had been worked on before they found themselves embroiled in that first title race with…

Arsenal are considering a move for Feyenoord goalkeeper Justin Bijlow as a potential replacement for Aaron Ramsdale, who is expected to leave the club this summer. Arsenal are looking at options in the goalkeeper market and Telegraph understands that Bijlow, features on their list of targets. Bijlow, 26, has made eight appearances for his national team and has two years remaining on his contract at Feyenoord. Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf, which first revealed Arsenal’s interest, reported that the goalkeeper will be available for “significantly” less than the £21 million price tag that was placed on him last year. Bijlow made international headlines last year when he threw a stray ball on to the pitch in order to stop FC Twente scoring against his team. He had raced out of his area to make a tackle and was stranded on the sidelines, with Twente hoping to swiftly attack the open goal. By immediately launching a second ball on to the pitch, he prevented Twente from taking a quick throw-in. @TheTelegraph

Arsenal's player of the season: Martin Odegaard, the spectacular playmaker

It is a testament to Arsenal’s season that if you were to ask five people for their player of the season, they would all be justified in having different candidates. As the club’s record signing, £105million ($133.5m) from West Ham United, Declan Rice may get the most attention. The midfielder hit the ground running upon his summer arrival, winning three player-of-the-match awards in his first four games, and continued to impress by adding layers to his game — namely deliveries from set pieces and a threat…

Arsenal season review: Progress, Rice's impact, VAR anger and a costly miss

For Arsenal, that crushing feeling was back for a second year in a row. After 10 months of believing that they could end their 20-year wait for the Premier League title, they blinked and found themselves facing the back of Manchester City down the home straight once more. Last season, Arsenal unexpectedly jumped from 69 points to 84, transforming from Champions League nearly men to runaway title chasers — until they were caught. Advertisement They fell away dramatically in the final stages, taking just 12 points…
