It was only yesterday that Rishi Sunak said that it was 'imperative' to maintain access to cash. Yet today the UK Govt announced their intention to allow gamblers to use debit cards with slot machines. "The move will allow pubs, casinos and slot venues to compete in an increasingly cashless society, ministers argue." "The changes will be made via a type of legislation that comes into force automatically, and can only be blocked if the House of Commons or Lords objects within a 40-day window." This clearly shows us where the government are when it comes to protecting cash. Nowhere. In the public sphere they continue to wax lyrical about cash access but won't dare to even consider legislating businesses to accept cash in the UK. They're more inclined to listen to the gambling lobby groups than they are their own citizens. https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-69021352 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram

💸 The British PM Rishi Sunak has signalled again that it is 'imperative' to maintain access to cash. This shouldn't be just 'reasonable' access, but equitable access to all. 🫣 But this continues to fall on the deaf ears of the banks including the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) who continue to prove powerless against bank closures. 📈 'Banking deserts' have been emerging more rapidly over the past few years. Parts of Birmingham are one example and this isn't a case where the government have been 'too slow'. This is by design and to ultimately transition the economy to majority digital, leaving a few so called million 'vulnerable' using cash for everyday life. 💪 It's up to us all individually to keep cash in demand and in circulation as much as possible. ❤️ Remember, a cashless society is a soulless society. So let's keep cash alive. 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram

"Whilst every single one of us will have our bank accounts scanned, the targets are those linked to receipt of a benefit including: 🔴10 million Brits in receipt of the state pension 🔴3 million people with long-term illness or disabilities 🔴Hundreds of thousands of carers making great sacrifices to look after elderly and disabled family members. These are the people who would most likely be the victims of false accusations, as happened in the Post Office Scandal." Silkie Carlo writes about the Government's plans to snoop on all of our bank accounts on the premise of dealing with welfare fraud & error. Considering that both Tesco & Sainsbury's make roughly £300m annually from harvesting & selling customer loyalty card data, it's fair to say Pret are also making a chunk of change. Having read a section of Pret's privacy policy concerning third party sharing, it highlights the importance of using pseudonyms, email aliasing, alternative addresses & phone numbers so that your data can't be useful to these companies. https://www.pret.co.uk/en-GB/privacy-policy 🚨 FOLLOW US: X | Telegram

Slot machines to go cashless as debit cards allowed

The government says it will help slot venues compete - but charities warn it could increase addiction.

Government will treat elderly 'like criminals' under new law

Ten million pensioners will be among those whose personal accounts will be secretly scanned to check for welfare fraud under plans that have been described as 'a snoopers' charter'.
