Importance of analysing UPSC Previous Year Papers In 2013, UPSC asked a question in which one of the option was seahorse. Again in 2021, seahorse was asked. (Set A, Q.28) If someone while analysing 2013 paper, had just done a little bit of research on seahorse, he would have easily guessed the answer to the question in 2021 correctly. How? Because the three options had seahorse in them, so by elimination, one could have gotten to the correct answer. This is just one of the many examples where options from previous year UPSC prelims papers have been asked in later years. Hence, you need to go through and research every option which is not familiar to you so as to improve your knowledge bank. Remember, UPSC never asks anything without purpose. Every option that has been put their in the question is a guide for aspirants for future.

Answer Writing Format First give a few seconds to correctly understand the demand of the question and don't just jump into writing the answer Intro - begin with definition of the keyword asked in the question or with some data and facts about the issue or current affair related to that issue Body - Features/Characteristics - Benefits - Issues/Challenges - Government initiatives - Way forward/Suggestions Conclusion Always end at an optimistic note, using keywords like New India, $5 Tn economy, Kartavya kaal, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, SDG, etc. Some suggestions β€’Make use of map/diagrams/flow chart, etc. as much as you can to improve the presentation of the answer. β€’Don't write in paragraph format, prefer point wise format β€’Write smaller sentences, don't care about grammar, it's not an essay β€’Use subheadings and put them in boxes to make them stand out β€’Add as much data, facts, information, examples, reports, etc. related to the point you are making β€’Avoid cutting and overwriting β€’In way forward/suggestion, include some reports like Xaxa committee for tribal questions, Bibek Debroy for Railway, etc. β€’Don't use short forms except for universally recognised abbreviations like UN, CBI, UNSC, IUCN, WWF, NCRB, etc. β€’Use a single color pen to save time β€’Highlight important keywords in your answer β€’Leave enough space between different parts of the answer β€’Use the quotes and keywords from the speeches of hon'ble PM as much as you can to give your answer the look as if written by a civil servant himself Optimum time 7 min for 10 marker 11 min for 15 marker
