Those who live in care homes face enormous challenges. Over the last four years, I have seen first-hand the impacts of restrictions on residents and advocated for those I felt I could help. One of my mother’s favourite residents is just a few doors away from her room. We pass by and chat every time we visit. He is a gentleman in every sense of the word, someone who, despite health issues which would daunt the best of us, always has a smile from ear to ear for everyone he meets. He is legendary in Dickinsfield and loved by all. I dropped by his room recently on my way to my mum and was devastated to see sadness in his face for the first time. He told me his one wish was to see “Grease” which was playing at our local dinner theatre. Somehow, I knew I just had to make this happen. With multiple health issues, this was no mean feat. But with the blessing of his family and support from his care team to prepare, a group of us, including, of course, my dear mum (also disabled), hit the town! Sometimes, it takes a village to turn things around - but nothing is impossible 😊 With special thanks to my husband David (who moves mountains for so many and is disabled himself), a wonderful unit manager (Kathy Harrigan), Royal Wagon taxi service, and The Mayfield Dinner Theatre (who made every accommodation to assist our party). A 5 year (actually 10-year) deal with the Feds (so much for independence). With a major focus on Palliative & End of Life services. More foreign healthcare workers (instead of rehiring the ones they fired). All working with Patty Hadju the COVID Health Minister. All from the Canada Health Transfer (CHT) - The Health equivalent to the Transfer payments i.e. Alberta pays the feds more money than it gets back and then says thank you. Read them carefully. Today, the Honourable Randy Boissonnault, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Official Languages, and the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Indigenous Services and Minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario, on behalf the Honourable Mark Holland, Canada’s Minister of Health and the Honourable and Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Health for Alberta announced a bilateral agreement to invest $627 million over the next five years to help Albertans age with dignity. This funding builds on the over $1 billion bilateral agreement that was announced with the province in December of 2023, as part of the Government’s Working Together to Improve Health Care for Canadians plan.

Alberta Update More likely to have received an XBB shot under the age of 1 than any other age group under 55 years old in Alberta. From here it goes downhill. Three times the national average. 🚨 Alberta Update - May 23, 2024 XBB Shots Over 813K UNTESTED COVID doses since Oct 16, 2023. The under 1-yr age group has the highest % XBB shots UNDER 55 yrs (13.4%), over 3 times the national average. Under 5 yr old is twice the national average (8.23%).
